too much smoke with apple pipe?

alright, so right now swims pretty new to smoking, and she hasn't yet gotten ahold of a pipe - so she used this ghetto tinfoil piece for a while, and then just started using apple pipes.

but everytime swims used an apple pipe its waste so much weed, just because whenever swims lights up, it smokes forever, and she can't hold that much in.

swims found that if she lights it for a very short time it helps, but not much. any suggestions? or will swims just have to put up with this until she can get a pipe?
