withdrawal effects of piracetam

If a person stop taking piracetam abruptly without lowering the dose over a few days, are there any bad effects? I mean taking the regular dose, then all of a sudden, stop taking it one day.

Re: withdrawal effects of piracetam

SWIM doesn't have experience with this... however this website mentions the risks...

"Abrupt suspension of treatment should be avoided, since this can cause a myoclonic or general crisis in certain myoclonic patients." (wikipedia)

It does seem to be dependent on an underlying condition... SWIM isn't a doctor...

Re: withdrawal effects of piracetam

Okay... apparently SWIM can't post links to other websites. SWIMS apologies...

I have read that you should ween yourself off...

SWIM isn't sure if SWIY has experienced similar effects which resemble other elated experiences... both the positives and negatives... but perhaps you could prepare yourself in the exact same means as SWIY would for anything else which is a "chemical reaction"...

snickers added 2 Minutes and 12 Seconds later...

SWIM is only one week in...

Re: withdrawal effects of piracetam

I've read some reports of people feeling a little mentally sluggish after stopping piracetam after taking it for awhile, could be that they are just use to the boost it gives them. There shouldn't be any major withdrawal from this chemical, but I've not researched into it much.

I am curious though... SWIY mentioned a 1 year bout... were there any noticable effects during that period for the positive or the nagative?

SWIM is convinced that after just a week they have overdone it... is now keeling back to a super low dose and supplementing with lecithin with hopes to gradually maintain a lower over all steady effect.

Wondering if SWIY had any advice or insight.

snickers added 9 Minutes and 5 Seconds later...

Or is this sketch what SWIM thinks it is... basically non-sustainable...

Piracetam withdraw

Hello. I've been using piracetam daily for 3-4 weeks (dosage 2.4g - 3.2g divided in 2 or 3 times(usualy 1.6+.0.8 +0.8) + lecithin 1 time a day (about 7-8 grams (it's 26% PC)) and stopped yesterday. Today I have tremors in my left hand, and it's generally shaky. I also seem to be nervous and my thoughts are sluggish. I take it this is nothing else, but withdraw. Will these effects go away with time ? Because I saw a few other threads and some people say they didn't. To be honest, that's pretty scary and this topic should be investigated in order to warn possible future users about these possible side effects.

Shifftee added 49 Minutes and 43 Seconds later...

note: what was mild nervousness is now pretty much bull blown anxiety. I read snickers' thread so I've prepared 2 benzodiazepines in case of a panic attack.

I took 800mg piracetam after reading it's not good to stop it cold turkey. Will take 800mg more later today.

Shifftee added 90 Minutes and 42 Seconds later...

note: there are now spasms in my stomach too (I also felt a few in my legs)

Shifftee added 11 Minutes and 8 Seconds later...

note: spams occur in nearly any place in my body, though not intensive.

Re: Piracetam withdraw

It went away for me... SWIM had the same issue after terminating a lower dosage after a weeks usage... Only SWIM felt sharp minor pains in my left arm... It only lasted a day...

The body will recover from just about anything...

Technically what SWIY might be experiencing is myoclonus or something similar. Piracetam to my knowledge has been effective when treating people who have chronic myoclonus. Some manufacturers suggest that abrupt termination will essentially increase the effects of myoclonus in myoclonus pateints, so they reccommend to lower the dose gradually to ween off...

Re: Piracetam withdraw

SWIY's problem passed away in a day, but mine still persists. I found only 2 threads about similar problems and it seems they didn't go away.. One was 2 weeks since the tremors began and the other was 2 MONTHS. I will certainly see a neurologist about this.. I hope I can make a full recovery..
