TEK - What went wrong?

SWIM recently did a DMT extraction that yielded absolutely nothing. SWIM is experienced and has had many successful pulls in the past. Methods and materials were the same as always. DMT was mixed with acidified water, heated for about 3hrs, then left overnight. Two defattings were done. Basification was done and left over night. Naphtha was added and left overnight yet again. Seperated and evaporated. Everything looked normal like always, but SWIM found himself with a spotless dish in the end.

The only difference from SWIM's usual method was using VM&P Naphtha instead of Zippo. Could this affect it? SWIM thinks either the DMT didn't convert to freebase or it didn't convert to Hcl and get pulled out in the first step. SWIM still has all the solutions from the various stages. Any advice for SWIM? Should SWIM go back to the beginning and start over as he still has all previous solutions or could SWIM just try adding more base and seeing if it works then?

are you sure the material was good to begin with?

the acidified part should be done 3x and the liquids put together, not just once.

also, the naphtha should be stired/mixed and let separate a few times over and over before pulling it out into the evap dish, not just leave it standing on top overnight..

its also recommended to put the whole thing on a warm bath once naphtha is added, as it helps the dmt absorption by the naphtha

SWIM isn't sure about the material. It looks good, is there any obvious way to tell if it's bad? And yeah, SWIM knows he rushed the acid steps, but he has never had problems before. SWIM was planning to do a quickie for the weekend, then do the rest slowly. SWIM has had great success before even when rushing. And the naphtha was stirred about every hour for 6hrs before being left overnight.

An update: SWIM added a bit more base and then solvent again. This time evaporation left a minuscule amount. Just enough for one big, surprisingly strong toke. It was enough for SWIM to confirm there's DMT in there but it doesn't seem to want to come out. SWIM didn't expect much with only one acidic boil but he expected SOMETHING. SWIM is thinking the majority of the spice is still in the MHRB. SWIM will see how it goes after 2 more boils.

Update:Apparently it was as simple as warm naphtha. Thanks for that. SWIM evaporated a pull done with warm naphtha and was left with a large smattering of crystals that SWIM just discovered are some of the best he's had So again, thank you!

couple things

for maximum yields...
warm in water bath to 60 C when Naptha is added
shake for 1 minutes vigorously
then put back in water bath and keep at 60 C till Naptha is separated.

SWIM believes you are doing too much
SWIM never does acidification and has massive yields that only take hours

SWIM uses Naptha, Lye, and MHRB

swim agrees with the above, for him, acidification has been completely unecessary, stb is the way to go in swim's opinion, be sure to post a trip report when swiy uses some of those "large crystals" we'd love to hear about it

Swim is glad that swiy got everything figured out. He has one question, however. What was swiy's source material? Was it MHRB (swim suspects so)? If so, why the two defatting processes? Defatting, while useful for some starting plant matter, really isn't necessary when using the inner root bark of the Mimosa Hostilis.

Also, as far as the transition from Zippo fluid to VM&P Naptha goes, this is a move that swim highly commends. He believes it to be a more pure substance and generally has much better results when using it. When extracting and synthesizing material that he plans to ingest, he always uses the highest quality chemicals that are available to him, and he would advise swiy to continue to do the same.
