Expired Hydrocodone-Safe?

Hi. SWIM recently found some vicodin 5/500. The prescription was filled in July 2006. They're in blister packaging. SWIM thinks the Hydrocodone should be fine, but he's concerned about the APAP in them. SWIM wonders if perhaps being in blister packs would preserve them better and if they would still be useable?

Re: Expired Hydrocodone-Safe?

Yeah, it's safe. If it oxidized into something dangerous the FDA wouldn't have cleared it because those toxins would be present in growing amounts from day one. The worst that can happen is they've lost some potency, in my opinion. I don't know of any drugs that are literally unsafe to take after expiration. Anyone?

Probably the kind you need to keep chilled if any.

Hydrocodone on the other hand will out last us all if it's kept well stored. Nobody wouldn't even blink twice if they were a century old, other then at the thought of destroying antiques.
