New member, backstory, suggestions welcome.
Well, here we go. SWIM used hydro for a couple of years, peaking around 250mg a day. At that point they went to their doctor who referred them to a sub doctor, and they were on sub for about 2 years.
He started at 12mg/day of sub and eventually tapered down to 1/8 of a 2mg tablet per day, then off. That really stretched withdrawals out, but made them livable.
After about a week of a lot of Charmin and loperamide, his wife got a root canal. Enter hydro to the house again. When it was clear she no longer needed it, he partook of the remainder. So he's had about 4 days at 10mg/day. Didn't go crazy, but still.
His biggest concern is PAWS. Since he suffers from depression anyway, which is moderately well controlled with SSRIs, the lethargy, lack of motivation, and generation depression following opiate use is a killer.
I'd love to be able to relate any success stories or encouragement about PAWS, and how long it takes to feel "90% normal" again. In general, he'd be content to lay on the sofa for the next six months watching the weather channel, but that's no life. I guess its better than addiction in the long run, but in the short run when you have to make those hard choices, knowing it will get better eventually would be a lot of help...
Thanks for listening!
