Harmless (non-psychoactive) powder to snort?

This may sound like a rather odd question, but can anyone name me a relatively easy to acquire powder that could be easily and harmlessly snorted, without any sort of effects? I promise I'm not cutting drugs! I'm in a play in which drugs are involved (Cymbeline adapted by Kneehigh for any theatre buffs) and I thought it would be effective for us to actually physically snort a powder.

Any ideas?

Swim has seen people snort splenda before as a joke. He can't say if it is entirely harmless, but it produces no psychoactive effects and supposedly isn't too unpleasant to insufflate, though there is a bit of a sweet after taste.

goodys powder doesnt really have much of an effect, its just caffeine and tylenol really

It's a good job you actually said what the play was, or noone would have believed you. Sugar is good - doesn't hurt too much won't do any harm. Avoid talcum powder at any cost though. That is similar too asbestos in many ways, and kills quite a few babies every year.

Benadryl is also dumb. less than a matchhead and you'll cry like a bitch.

I would not recommend actually snorting anything at all. It's not a very pleasant experience and snorting anything can irritate the nasal passageways. You don't want someone to get a nose bleed right in the middle of the play. In addition, snorting something could lead to infection of the sinuses, pneumonia, or even pulmonary obstruction.

There's got to be better ways of doing it. Most of the audience isn't going to be close enough to actually see if something is being snorted or just being sneakily dumped off the table by a quick movement of the hand.

Its quite an intimate performance space, and the whole point is that it isn't pleasant! I want to audience to SEE it being snorted and to have a reaction to it. I once saw a piece of theatre where a woman downed two bottles of wine (you knew it was wine because she took the packaging off and cork out) in one, and continued acting. Unpleasant but very effective onstage! It made me feel sick just watching it.

it's harmless, it's just sugar.
plus it's already crushed up and good consistancy.
it burns a bit but that might give swiy the effect he is looking for.
just be sure swiy trys/practices it before if he snorts too much it might make his eyes water.

Isn't that brightly coloured? That would ruin the whole effect. And the audience isn't likely to know if it burns or not. If something burns it is more likely to be damaging the nose.

yea swim didn't really think about the colors, for some reason he remembered one of them being white.

anyway, as for how swim knows it burns, well back in junior high swim and his friends weren't very mature that and add

Well, then you need something water soluble, non-crystalline and relatively non-active physiologically.

I would second the lactose suggestion.

No offense, but people admitting to snorting such random things for no reason is really sad. When I was 14 there was a brief fad involving snorting sugar or crushed up polo mints. It just seems incredibly juvenile and irresponsible. That goes double for people that try snorting drugs just for the sake of it without reading into that method of administration.

sherbert snorting

This commendable practice began innocently enough when Carlos Dunbar claimed he had snorted three tubes of Sherbert Dip resulting in an "amazing" high. Soon most of the class were snorting incredibly fat lines of sherbert directly off German texbooks in class. The procedure would usually be to pour, chop, snort and then bellow as loud as possible to indicate the strength and status of your "high". With a particulary fat line, sherbert-activated mucus foam would pour from your nose, covering yourself and those near you. Soon we were making "wraps" of sherbert and I had cunningly placed my "gear" in an old Tic-Tac box, making a rather dapper "snuff box", which was quite a hit with the laydez. As anyone who's seen Scarface or Pulp Fiction will know, this halcyon period could not last forever. Our Jimi Hendrix was Andrew "Tarby" Tarbet. On running out of Sherbert during one especialy fraught German lesson Tarby, driven mad with need, crushed up a packet of Refreshers in the hope of a "hit". After snorting most of a packet of crushed up refreshers a woozy quiet descended over Tarby. Suddenly blood began to gush from his nose onto his books, trousers and Louisa Milne who sat in front. Soon bits started coming out with the blood and Tarby fled to the toilet, presumably to die. After this shock, nasal Sherbert consumption tailed off and was almost completely over within six months.

Lol. When SWIM was at school he persuaded his friend to snort one of his antibiotic capsules (he had an infected ingrown toenail ). It made him sneeze incredibly loudly every 20 seconds for almost three hours (this made classes really funny). Despite this SWIM then easily persuaded his friend to do this again on another occasion, with equally funny results (SWIM knows that this was really irresponsible, BTW, but it was quite a while ago).

Sorry if that is considered off topic, but there isn't much of a topic to begin with, and I am advising not to use any form of drug for this play, psychoactive or otherwise.

@ weird logic: have you made a decision about what to use for this play yet?
