I was going to post this in the thread about scooby doo and shaggy and how they are potheads. Well anyways, have you ever knowticed that the game Super Mario Brothers is based on drugs, think about it.
Powerups:
Mushroom-Makes you Bigger *shrooms*
leaf- Makes you fly *pot*
Flower - Fire Balls (forgot the symbalance to a drug)
Star- Makes u all sorts of colors and you are invincable


I forgot some others i know *operator cutting in, do Do DO. Marijuana effects the memory* because my mind failed me in my current state. but i thought it was wierd how everything is kind of depected on drugs these days

yeah ive always noticed that, makes you wonder if the people who made
it meant it to be that way. What year did it come out, im drawing
a blank.

I would do a search for it via google or any other search engine, but wait while i was in jail my little brothers f-ed up my computer so much that i cant even use google because of the spyware, gotta fix that soon. I think that the original was early 80's or around there, the others followed in the years after (i'm drawing a blank also)


I bet it was one of those hidden meanings, just like in all the disney movies there is always a sexual inuendo or a few

Thanks Unico. I was going to guess around 85 because when i started playing nintendo when i was young SMB was still pretty new, and deff the hot game to play. Hell it came out right around the time i was born

Damn, how do you guys notice all this stuff? I loved and still love
super mario and all those games but I never thought of anything like
that heh.

omg. listen the shroom idea, wasnt from shrooms or magic mushrooms,
strictly from alice and wonderland. i recomend the book game over, a
book about nintendo history. most of those things arnt drugs, they are
powerups, no drug symbalence, pot doesnt make you fly, and it is just
power in an 8-bit game. and if the flower is anything it is opium. and
the star is pcp. because guys dont hurt you, but if you jump off a
cliff you die.

I relize that in game they are not drugs obviously... how interesting would that be to enter the little mushroom house and find a leaf and it says "Yougot a marijuana leaf". Hell i'm sure that it is just someone who found a symbolance for drugs with the power ups, but hey why not believe it has a hidden meaning.

Heres what I think about Mario and those mushrooms in the game... (For
once, this makes almost PERFECT sense to me... i hope it does the same
for you)



Ok, im sure you have heard of Amanita Mushrooms, correct? Well, the
thing about these mushrooms is that they have many different species.
Some are EXTREMELY poisionous, and some may give you an AWESOME trip.
If you have played many types of mario, some have these mushrooms that
look the same (red with white dots... just like real amanita
mushrooms), but some make your mario smaller and some make him bigger.
Im guessing that the ones that make him SMALLER are the dangerous ones,
and the ones that make him BIGGER are the trippy ones. Those are just
my thoughts.

Yes, Stingray,it does make sense. I also think that the idea for such a
world like Mario Brothers world has to basedon some kind if thoughts
produced bythe help of drugs. I mean really look at it, it is a world
with mushroom people, living in mushroom houses,that have a human
princess (much like alice in wonder land lol) and they have a
giant dinosaur that tries to kill them and takes the princess. and
after the lady is taken who do they call ......... a fucking plumber
(he sure does know alot about the pipes) and then to get there he
has to jump into really big pipes that sometimes have giant flowers
shooting out of them. Well it may not be exactly about drugs but
i can see alot of drug related things in it and i think it is funny as
hell. Have you guys noticed that all these things that weplayed and
watched when we were younger can some how be related to drugs (Scooby
Doo, Mario)

Question Stingray, you say that some of the mushrooms would make you smaller. This is one part of the game i do not remember. When would this happen? i thought the only time you got smaller is when u walked into the little mushroom men or got hit by something when you were big.

some of the marios i dont know specifically which ones... they had green and i believe one game had purple mushrooms that were poisonous... and i think he is refering to super smash bros which had a mushroom that made you small... but personally i think maybe shigeru miyamoto does take drugs...you know every game he has come up with... donkey kong... mario...zelda... pikmin...etc... he said he came up with in a dream... how the hell could u dream something like that without drugs? thats my opinion well kinda mine... i just wrote this and never really thought about it so i dont know if i accept this... heh but anyways there my words...

I don't know really about the symbolism of drugs in Super Mario bros
(frankly you can use can make up metaphors or symbolism for almost
anything) but hands down Super Mario Bros is the best game stoned, well
not really but it is a classic (actually its fun when you're drunk too,
or on any other drugs on that matter)
