Problem with diabetic syringe

SWIMS plunger on his rig won't go down. SWIM has a diabetic syringe, this has happened to SWIM before, the plunger goes down almost all the way then pops back up. When this happened last time the plunger ended up going back doonewn within a week, weird huh? Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: Problem with rig

first please use the correct decripitive names in thread . rig is slang and not everyone in the world may know what your refering to.

and we dont know what swiy have done to syringe, it sounds like it has clogged up.
try giving more information to us so that we arent answering questions that are so vague. thankyou

Re: Problem with rig

It sounds like the syringe SWIY is using has basically had it. SWIM thinks its madness to be reusing a syringe so often.

Re: Problem with rig

SWIM has also had this problem. SWIM figures some blood may have gotten stuck in the needle. SWIM doesn't know of any way to fix this problem, SWIM always just disposed of the syringe and used a fresh one. SWIM advises using fresh needles whenever possible. SWIM doesn't know where SWIY is located, but SWIY should find a needle exchange program in his area. Always use new needles whenever possible.

Re: Problem with rig

A rig is slang and this is an international forum so people outside of the US might use different words for syringe then people in the US. As for the "rig" or syringe problem, it sounds like it is clogged up and it's time to get a new one. This forum is all about harm reduction and if one must partake in IV drug use, then please use clean, fresh needles. Red Rock didn't always follow this advice back in his using days. As a matter of fact, there were many times that he reused his syringe until the needle was so dull that it would bend slightly every time he punctured his skin. SWIY's best bet is to obtain a new needle and discard the current one.

a flame on the needle , do not get it too hot , and push in plunger, it usually will clear the dry blood in rig. this is not to be done while inserted in vein , of course.

a better way is bleach, pouring in a little bleach into barrel of syringe , then insert plunger, it may need to set in there for a few minutes.

Re: Problem with diabetic syringe

Swiy shouldn’t reuse insulin syringes; doing so may cause you harm, however harm reduction can take many shapes and if swiy insists on reusing this syringe? Lets make sure it’s done as safely as possible.

Like other replies have suggested the hole in the needle is probably blocked, this is stopping the air from escaping and is causing a build up of pressure, this pressure is pushing on the plunger and forcing it back.
If these syringes MUST be re used? Make sure they are flushed out after use; a mix of hot water and a small amount of bleach or disinfectant would be best.
Sitting the blocked syringe in a cup of hot water/bleach will help loosen any dried blood E.T.C
Swim would advisee caution when using a flame to try and unblock it, if the needle gets to hot the glue that holds it in place will melt.

SWIM always if he knows he has to reuse a needle after using it fills it with water and squirts it out to make sure there is no blood left in

Needles and syringes or so cheap and so easily obtained online that SWIM uses a fresh insulin needle and syringe for each shot.

Re: Problem with diabetic syringe

Sometimes the lifestyle that goes along with IV drug use makes a persons priorities a little different from that of the conventional population. SWIM is no stranger to desperation. Yes, TSTIyour syringe is most likely clogged. If the advice that SWI beentheredonethatagain does not do the trick, boiling the syringe (not the plunger) in a small pot of water with a cap or two of bleach for about a minute will sometimes unclog it. The repeated use of a syringe will also cause the very tip of the needle to "fish hook". especially after burning it. SWIY can get rid of the hook and make the needle a little sharper by placing the needle horizontally on the striker of a NEW book of matches and placing ones thumb on top of the needle holding it firmly to the striker. Pull and rotate. Best of luck.

A flame will likely clear it.
Better yet, obtain a 100 box of "rigs" LOL from you local exchange, they are free.

Yes, syringes are obtainable through an exchange program in SOME areas. But how many 'true junkies' haven't found themselves at 7:00 the next morning sick as a research monkey. SWIYou cook up the small amount of gear SWIyou somehow managed to save from the previous evening, draw it up and, yes' Oh my God no, yes. SWIYour only syringe gets jammed. Now what??? The question that started this whole thread was a valid one. SWIM no longer has to experience this scenario but he sure as hell has been there more than once. When ones life is immersed in the finding, getting, and trying to get money to purchase heroin, one has little time to ease on down to the drug store/chemist/needle exchange (looking like total shit I might add) to aquire a 100 box of U-100's. It is better to use ones own old syringe than someone elses practically new one.

Re: Problem with diabetic syringe

Swim's been there. If its just a case of being to embarrased to buy em tho... swiy gotta get over it if using is somthing swiy wants to continue with. The pharmacy techs dont judge...or if they do they dont say anything lol. But swiy arms will look better seriously alot better swim means almost complete reduction of tracks if you can use a freshy each time. Swim was were swiy are less than a month ago, trying to reuse a pin..sry syringe 20-30times before swim got rid of it but for the price of a slurpee swiy can get enough needle to last a while

Yeah, I've been there. That's why i recommended to use a flame, it works most of the time.

Order the syringes online or ask at your local pharmacy. Most won't turn you away.

Re: Problem with diabetic syringe

as tt wrote in another thread, avoid the insuline syringes. use common syringes and
needles that are made for intravenous use, because those are grounded different.
those "microfine" or other brands of insuline syringes have needles that will hurt your
veins more than a needle for iv application.

SWIM also solved this problem in lazy/hard times with rigs by boiling the fucked up ones in water. LIke boiling potatoes, lol. But with the plunger pulled out, so water gets into syringe clean it through.
The heating of the needle usually got SWIMs rig unusable again.
As for clogged H in a rig, SWIM just cuts the damn head off, as declogging it will also leave some coagulated mess which actually is half of the strenght of skunk.
