Experiences - Codeine Promethazine Cough Syrup Experiences

What type of physically visible symptoms would SWIM need in order to get prescribed a medicine containing codeine and promethazine? (Such as puffy eyes, sore throat etc). Is it possible SWIM could be prescribed a medicine not containing codeine and promethazine for his 'awful cold'? Is it usually prescribed for colds and coughs yes? Is it only severe colds and coughs or it it fairly easy to get prescribed in the UK?

Also SWIM is wondering whether cough syrups containing codeine and promethazine is safe to buy on the street or over the internet if his GP would not prescribe as SWIM knows this is the only medicine that be helped to treat him.

i used to get prescribed "hycomine" which is hydrocodone in a cough sryup with a few other relativly useless ingredients...one of which was an anti-histamine.

but the ONLY time he would give it to me is if i had severe bronchitis. he would give me an anti-biotic for the infection and hycomine to help with sough suppression. he would tell me to take it ONLY before sleep.

say your coughing is preventing you from sleep. stay up a day or so to carry the look and force yourself to cough a lot to irritate your throat.

"S*W*I*Y is very un-likely to convince a dr to prescribe a particular cough medicine.and to be honest i cant really think why you would want this,swiy can quite legaly purchase the said codine in over the counter meds from his local chemist.co-codamol 8/500 you could even make your own cough medicine by doing a"cwe"(see main codine forum page) and mixing with a tincture(ask the chemist for this)

having lots of spare time on his hands swim has done a little digging into swiys problem,as well as being an antihistamine promethazine is also used to treat nausea/vomiting but as a slight sedative effect.codine being a cough supressant would only be used to treat a dry or irratating cough..
i hope this helps a little..

Wee Jimmy has got a lot of promethezine and some DHC 120mg MRs and is currently cutting down methadone (around 20mls at the mo).

Hey i live in the UK and have a real bad chest, benilyn isnt doing it for me, i here this stuff is what i need, can i just go to a pharmacy and get some, or is it prescription?

Promethazine with codeine is prescription for sure.But you could get some OTC pills that contain 8mg of codeine each and if you have no opiate tolerance 2-3 should do for your cough.
Also Dextromethorphan (DXM) is really effective as a cough suppresant some studies even show that it's just as effective as codeine.These are both OTC so just ask at the pharmacy and they should have it.

SWIM had a bad cough for a few days and decided to give himself a long weekend by taking off a day from class on a Friday. SWIM researched prior as to what this syrup was prescribed for, so he could get his hands on some. SWIM arrived at the doctor around 10 am, and said that he had a very bad cough, trouble sleeping, and itchiness. This got him the syrup he desired. When SWIM got home he drank about 6 oz., and decided to listen to some music. Needless to say SWIM fell asleep in 45 minutes, and woke up to music blaring in his headphones. Suddenly he noticed something. The music sounded different than before. Not necessarily slowed down like the Southern Rap Dj's and artists had described, but completely weird (in a good way). Anyway SWIM had sat there for a few minutes and then got up to look at the clock. It was 3:55 pm. SWIM finally realized he had to work at 4:30, so he quickly got dressed and got in the car with the syrup in his pocket. He arrived at work at 4:20 pm, oh what a good time, and decided to drink the next 2 oz. of syrup. Well it took all of about 5 minutes after SWIM got out of his car to feel the real effects of this whole bottle of syrup. He went and clocked in, and everyone was asking "Hey man you feeling alright?". Of course he was feeling greater than god, but was quite drowsy. The manager finally told him he would run register that night, and the cooperation between SWIM and the customers, was more than satisfactory. After an eternity of waiting at the register for close, we finally got to leave. After leaving SWIM decided to go record music with one of his friends. This is the most fun he had ever had producing music, and wishes he could do it every time this way. Unfortunately words were slurred in recording, but producing the beats was completely legit. After a long day SWIM decided to call it a night, and got to sleep better than he ever had before.

Swim has taken codeine+promethazine before but only noticed an increased sedation.The euphoria wasn't any better but obviously there was no itching.Not really worth the trouble if you ask swim.

SWIM mostly just passes out on that syrup. SWIM notices getting into bed feels like being on a boat and that SWIM hears obnoxious music in white noise on the codeine syrup.

The syrup is prescribed to people that have a cough that keeps them up at night and prevents sleep. My college gives it out to students like hotcakes!

Tell the doc you have a pesistant cough that keeps you up at night along with a tender sore throat. Or there are always "scripts" for sale off the street. I've been sippin' drank/lean/oil aka prometh w/codeine on/off since 1999 and I must say since Actavis, the last great purple manufacturer was put on hold, drank has not been the same. There are new manufacturers out who can't replicate the "TASTE" of the original syrup. With this and retarded ass prices these days it has become overated.
