Anyone elso amazed at poppy botany?
I find it quite amazing how from just a tiny seed, water and dirt one of the most pleasurable substances can be constructed almost automatically. I'm really interested in how and why the opium poppy does what it does. From just dirt and one of the tiniest seeds around this marvel constructs a beautiful substance, why? What is the reason for the opium poppy to produce opium containing the alkaloids we have come to love and need for pain management? And what is a brief outline of the actual chemical processes of and in the plant itself to construct the main goodie morphine? Have opium poppies delved very far into the GMO side of things to supercharge them like corn and tomato's? I think GMO is the next step for poppies, think of a poppy producing 100% morphine? A poppy that you could literally incise and swallow for a 5 hour nod? Really just a rant, but would be grateful for any input.

Re: Anyone elso amazed at poppy botany?
One doubts that 100% morphine is achievable. However through positive breeding programs a higher morphine content is not only possible but easily achievable.
This would prove interesting to read for anyone interested in botany of P.Somniferum Peace
