Getting a (legit) prescription for hydrocodone

Hi, someone I know wants to get a prescription for hydrocodone from a doctor. It's for "legit pain", but he wants to get this script with no questions asked (aka, he just wants to tell the doctor I have pain, I want this prescription, doctor writes the script, and that's it)

He lives in New York City, so I'm sure there's doctors who are willing to do this. Note that he does NOT plan on doctor shopping for multiple prescriptions, he only wants one (since obviously if you get more then 1 from different doctors that starts throwing up red flags).

So my question is, what is the best way for him to find a willing doctor for this (other then visiting a bunch and crossing his fingers)

I mean hell, I've heard in the news about people who are clearly addicts going to the doc. for prescriptions and still getting them.

Re: Getting a (legit) prescription for hydrocodone

Perhaps tell the doc that a relative gave swiy something to ease the pain whilst spending a weekend at thier house as swiy had run out of his normal meds, swiy weren't too sure what it was but thinks it was 'hydrocordeen' or something similar and it was the only thing you have ever had that sorted your pain out

Thats what swim is planning on doing anyway

Yeah, but this guy would like to know how to find a not-too-picky doctor, so he doesn't have to waste time with ones who won't give it

Other than going on the recommendations of others, you're just going to have to bounce around until you find one. No doctor is going to put "I Rx Opiates, No Questions Asked" in their Yellow Book ad. Anyway, if SWIyou really does have legit pain, it shouldn't be too hard to get hydro from a doctor. They may try things like high-dose ibuprofen, or Tylenol 3's first. Obviously the ibuprofen is useless, T3's do have some rec. value and they are good painkillers, but SWIY is seeking hydro, so......Accept the T3 script. Take it home, fill it and take it as Rx'd for a month, like a good boy. Make followup appointment with the doctor, tell him (note, male doc's seem to be slightly more generous with the ol' script pad, at least out my way) that it helped but it didn't help enough, the pain still bugs you especially in the early morning and when trying to go to sleep at night, could he give you something slightly stronger? For kiss-ass points, add: "SWIM doesn't want oxycontin or anything like that, i'm not fishing for drugs, i just need to kill this pain".
Note. please do this only if SWIY really does have legit pain. Dumbasses getting scripts for no reason and then fucking up while under the influence really cock up the system for those of us who need Rx opiates for real reasons besides recreation/addiction.

Re: Getting a (legit) prescription for hydrocodone

Well, SWIM doesn't want to deal with the hassle of getting scripts he doesn't want, or getting physicals, xrays, etc. He just wants the pain meds he wants, and a doctor who understands what he wants and is OK with it.

SWIM would like to know where to get a recommendation, and if he can't, then what would be a better place to "bounce around"? Bear in mind this is New York City. Would he be better off trying doctors in a good neighborhood, or a really crappy neighborhood? Within a 2 mile radius there's one of the richest zip codes and one of the poorest zip codes, and everything in between.

SWIM has good health insurance.

Re: Getting a (legit) prescription for hydrocodone

SWIY is asking way too many "how can i commit this felony?" questions. SWIM understands that you want the meds for legit pain and you do not have felonious intent, but a mod, admin or visiting cop could take the questions another way. All SWIM will say is there is no magic wand to wave, it really is luck, and no doctor will just write a script for whatever SWIY wants if SWIY is a new patient.

Re: Getting a (legit) prescription for hydrocodone

SWIM says:

From the stories I've heard about people going into a doctor's office and flatly stating "Hey, I have a lot of pain and a friend gave me some hydrocornodone or something like that and it helped me!" or something does not go over well -- being a doctor does, after all, imply a certain amount of wit and generally doctors know more about the way that addicts act than do addicts. The majority of doctors are very suspicious about this kind of thing and it's almost become a thing of righteousness for many of them, so it seems.

I have a back problem and have had it for a few years now. The best advice SWIY has been given in this thread is to take what the doctor gives them, for the amount of time it's given, and slowly work their way up to hydrocodone. It will come eventually with even the most stubborn doctors with enough persistence.

Not partaking in X-rays and physicals is going to get the person nowhere as this looks extremely suspicious and I don't know of any doctors that would write a prescription of that strength based on word of mouth from the patient.

99.9% of doctors will require a physical and x-rays/other local studies on the first day and even if nothing is detected they will give the person something like extra-strength Ibuprofen to test the waters. If they come in demanding something else or call in the next day it's a big big red flag. People who have real pain are usually quite modest and don't want to become addicts, as their pain is misery enough. This is detectable in even the most sly-witted patients and if any red flags go up one can count on a proverbial perma-ban from opiates.

SWIY can probably count on the following regimen before being written a script for anything major:

1 month of extra-strength Ibuprofen (or similar) -> 1-2 months Tramadol -> 1-2 months of 30mg Codeine/APAP (generally tylenol 3) -> 1-2 months of Vicoprofen (unsnortable without CWE) -> Lortab (Hydrocodone/APAP).

I've been through this regimen many times and it's proven to be the case with most doctors. I had a prescription for hydrocodone/APAP 10mg 3 times per day for nearly two years when I switched doctors last year. To my dismay the new doctor's first action was to put me back on Tramadol and I spent the next 3 months slowly working my way back up to hydrocodone (in severe withdrawals) until 10mg Norco's (Hydrocodone with small amount of tylenol) were written.

SWIY just has to go with the flow, take what they're given and act as if the doctor knows best and most importantly try to purvey (don't make it too explicit) that SWIY doesn't want to be on painkillers but it is a necessity. Anything else would seem suspicious and word of potential addicts/shoppers tends to travel well among doctors.

Re: Getting a (legit) prescription for hydrocodone

SWIM actually got his script just by saying he ran out of refills a few weeks ago on his last script. (SWIM went to a walk in clinic to get it).

SWIM'll bring the prescription bottle to the next doctor (that schedules regular appointments.. since those have a much lower copay then the clinic) when it comes time for a refill. If denied, he'll go back to the clinic and deal w/ the higher copay (or try a different doc).

SWIM got 7.5mg Lortab, and does not snort the pills (that's nasty!)

hamsterdam added 1 Minutes and 24 Seconds later...

Oh, one more note.

SWIM is only getting a prescription for 30 pills, and is not going back for refills monthly (He plans on 1 refill every 2 months).

Wow SWIY got lucky & i find it pretty surprising the doc didn't ask to see the prescription bottle or ask who prescribed the hydrocodone origionally...

SWIM was also surprised.. but with the prescription bottle in hand the next time should be easier. The doc even asked what strength SWIM would like and probably would've had no problem if 10s were asked for.
