1943 Cocaine Prescriptions????

So on an auction site I found, there are:
"Vintage Old COCAINE Prescription slips! RX ! RARE"

Is this even possible from 1943? What was the state of legality? I thought it was like banned in early 1920's or so.

Anybody know whats up if these are (or could be) real?

Re: 1943 Cocaine Prescriptions????

Back in 1973 swim knew a few people who were getting charlie on script - along with their heroin.Swim thinks it was prescribed because the heroin made them tired.
(Think if we tried that now the response would be "if the amount of opiates you are getting makes you fall asleep then you are on too high a dose,we better reduce it!")
This was in the u.k though, swim doesn`t know about the u.s.
Swim has no idea if the following is true, but she remembers reading that when coca cola was first on sale it had cocaine in it.For energy one assumes. If its true, swim doubts it would have been more than a tiny amount.
Swims curious.Have any other swiys heard this about coca cola?

Pemberton called for five ounces of coca leaf per gallon of syrup, a significant dose, whereas, in 1891, Candler claimed his formula (altered extensively from Pemberton's original) contained only a tenth of this amount. Coca-Cola did once contain an estimated nine milligrams of cocaine per glass, but in 1903 it was removed.[24] Coca-Cola still contains coca flavoring.
After 1904, Coca-Cola started using, instead of fresh leaves, "spent" leaves — the leftovers of the cocaine-extraction process with cocaine[25] To this day, Coca-Cola uses as an ingredient a cocaine-free coca leaf extract prepared at a Stepan Company plant in Maywood, New Jersey. trace levels left over at a molecular level.
In the United States, Stepan Company is the only manufacturing plant authorized by the Federal Government to import and process the coca[26] Stepan laboratory in Maywood, New Jersey, is the nation's only legal commercial importer of coca leaves, which it obtains mainly from PeruBolivia. Besides producing the coca flavoring agent for Coca-Cola, Stepan Company extracts cocaine from the coca leaves, which it sells to Mallinckrodt, a St. Louis, Missouri pharmaceutical[27] N.J. Stepan buys about 100 metric tons of dried Peruvian coca leaves each year, said Marco Castillo, spokesman for Peru's state-owned National Coca Co.[28] plant. and, to a lesser extent, manufacturer that is the only company in the United States licensed to purify cocaine for medicinal use.

but all of this stopped when the antidrug legislature started coming into action, hence my question haha.

it is said that coca cola still imports coca leafs, extracts cocaine alkaloids, and uses them just for flavor

Re: 1943 Cocaine Prescriptions????

Still used as a local anesthesia: Cocaine is used by health care professionals to temporarily numb the lining of the mouth, nose, and throat (mucous membranes) before certain medical procedures (e.g., biopsy, stitches, wound cleaning). It is an anesthetic that works quickly to numb the area about 1-2 minutes after application. Cocaine also causes blood vessels to narrow, an effect that can decrease bleeding and swelling from the procedure.

Re: 1943 Cocaine Prescriptions????

Cocaine is still being used as a perscription today.
"Today, cocaine is a Schedule II drug—it has high potential for abuse but can be administered by a doctor for legitimate medical uses, such as a local anesthetic for certain eye, ear, and throat surgeries." Swim has read that the perscription cocaine is from puru and is brought to New york in the form of coca leaves and are then sent to St. Louis to be processed into cocaine then distributed to a few hospitals, Walgreens probably doesnt stock it...

Re: 1943 Cocaine Prescriptions????

Had a old dentist that used some on swim before, came in the little vials like Novocaine, but it had cocaine on the label! He wouldn't give the empty vials away either.

Re: 1943 Cocaine Prescriptions????

Hmm, very perplexed about that script. Been doing some random searches but havent came up with nothing yet. But the town of Chatfield these days only has a population of like 2500 people. So in 43, it was probably lower. But who knows. A few things Swim found odd is the phone number? 126? The Drs address is "above McClintock's drugs"? as opposed to out back near the dumpster! LOL j/k!! And why not just fill the script downstairs instead of taking it elsewhere? That could probably be explained though!! The dates are written short like 2/7/09. I assume years ago things where more thorough. Like writing it long February 7, 2009. Swim also thinks the Drs name would be complete and not initials. And the last 2 cents... no address for the patient? Well Swim will keep looking as it is keeping her brain occupied.... NO ROCK!!!

Obviously it's going to be pure. they're not going to cut it with random chemicals. They might add different chemicals to act with the cocaine though. and swim's mom works in a hospital. That shit's locked up tight. you need to sign it in/out, how much you're taking, and it's literally in a lockbox. they don't play around with it, and it's rarely used. Swim's mom saw it only once or twice in the last 10 years, and that's steady work in the ER.

Granted this was at the turn of the century, but keep in mind.... not to derail, but SWIM thought he heard a spot from an old baseball documentary chronicling Ty Cobb's affinity for the original "Coca Cola." SWIM can't tell when the add aired, or exactly when the product was changed, but this may go a long way towards explaining the Georgia Peach's hit and run production!

112Rals added 64 Minutes and 32 Seconds later...

Back in them days, doctors offices was located above or near drugstores for convenience of the patients. During WW2, cars was scarce, due to the war effort.
