These questions have probably been answered somewhere on here but anyway Im feeling bored so I'll help you out. Both adderall and Hydrocodone (Vicoden) prescriptions say to discard 1 year after the date they were filled but really it all depends on how its kept because a medication like Hydrocodone can be used safely for 100 years if its in a cool dry place. Hydrocodone will start to lose potency but after ten years it would probably be about 80 percent as potent.

Re: vicodin expiration

Yeah, all drugs expire sometime but as ohcasey said it depens on how it's stored.Even if it expires it'll still be potent, but it'll loose it's potency over time...

Re: vicodin expiration

A few years ago, while helping a friend's grandmother clean, Swim's cat came across a large, pharmacy sized bottle of brand-Vicodin. It was from 1982 or something like that. Hell of a find, and the cat reported it to be quite viable. The house didn't have any AC and the area is quite cold in the winter, so no special conditions other than sitting on a shelf were really happening. Not sure about how long the APAP will sit for, same with amphetamine salts (adderall). It's different for each drug. Tetracycline, an anti-biotic for instance, actually gains potency and can shut down your kidneys and liver pretty quickly, so be careful with other substances!

Re: vicodin expiration

There was a slight decrease...now, the cat hadn't been using opiates regularly at the time, and so measuring potency (and remembering it after all these years) is somewhat difficult. But, for 5mg a piece, nothing taking an extra one or two didn't cure. Don't recall exactly how many were in the bottle....but at least enough to spell out the word VICODIN 3 pills wide and several pills long, with plenty extra. A couple hundred...Swim remembers the cat taking a handful (literally, a handful) and hiding them around HIS house so he'd find them again by surprise spring cleaning or whathaveyou.

But for being 20+ years past expiration date, they held up amazingly well.

Definetely, no question about it.If anyone had posted that they had found these and if they were still potent, I would have said no for sure...weird.

Re: vicodin expiration

Ive read about 50 year morphine not losing any noticeable potency. If a swimmer searches hard enough this has been talked about on this same forum with info from a study on the subject.
