Small exposed veins - Too fat too shoot easily

SWIM has put on a lot of weight over a couple years and now it's coming back to haunt him. SWIM has had trouble finding good veins. He wears extra layers, picks up some dumbbells and does bicep curls and when he's done the only veins exposed are the ones that would've been exposed anyway and not very much.

Once SWIM puts the needle under the skin, the area gets irritated and the veins seem to shrink away even more rapidly than they would anyway. The most visible veins are on the back of SWIM's hands and undersides of his wrists. SWIM's vein in the crook of the elbow felt good and easy to use about 4 days ago but still feel tender, though it is never visible beyond a thin blue line underneath a layer of pale skin.

SWIM has used a belt as a tourniquet and tightened it as much as he could, but none of the veins became much more visible. SWIM said it looked as though the belt was pinching the fat all around the arm quite significantly.

Does anyone else with tiny, hidden veins and excess body fat have a good solution?

Re: Small exposed veins - Too fat too shoot easily

swim posted a reply to a query in the same vein yesterday.(in the same vein - geddit??sorry, swim just couldn`t resist it!)swims best advice is to stop fixing but she knows swiy will probably ignore it.
practical advice is to have a hot bath first.swim stays in the bath till shes had her hit but if swiy sometimes crashes out with his works still in his arm(or wherever)then obviously he should get out first.swim wood suggest staying in the steamy room wrapped in a thick bathrobe (pre-warmed on the radiator.)
for her morning fix swim stays in the warmth of the bed & finds it the most helpful thing she can do to make her veins visible.
good luck.

Re: Small exposed veins - Too fat too shoot easily

Ok swim typing on his iPhone will hook u up with the info... Since on a phone reply will be quick pm swim for details. First of all the best veins are those felt.. Second swim has drawn blood from fat people.. Has nothing to do with weight.. If swiy hasn't been taught the proper way to mainline he mAy encounter serious problems.. MYbe swiy hit A nerve? Without more info it's kinda hard to help.. Venipuncture is complicated on diff levels.. But for swiy benefit.. Shooting in the dorsal side of hand is a good option.. Just tie the tourniquet under wrist.. Swiy will need a smAll gAuge needle ifhe wants to shoot through back of palm.. And should hAve assistance since it's harder to strike a vein there solo... Go for the most prominent vein in hand.. But these veins are tiny.. Hell need to go in at a very small angle just over skin
