Depending on the kind of party.. But when on MDMA then lots of nice looking woman, good music, and nice people.

When on heroine a bucket to be sick in. crack sex sex sex if swim can get it up.

a few acoustic guitars and other assorted instruments laying around,
good and diverse music on the stereo,
abundant alcohol--like enough to drown a herd of elephants, I mean--
plenty of pets with their preferred substances, puffing and passing,
eye candy; preferably in the form of attractive ladies and charming boys,
the fire pit,
a barbecue,
and it ends with people waking up in strange beds and perhaps even strange cities not knowing how they arrived or who is next to them--or why they are sleeping in rose bed, as the case may be--then it should be considered a success

I second the barbecue. Previously prepared culinary magic.
Then add loads of good people, with some storytellers & jokers.
Not to little, but certainly not too much beer. Somehow the party always goes to shit if certain people drink too much of it.
Guitars & the firepit, but also some good dancing music.
Eyecandy indeed. Throw in a few cheap lasers or project a psychedelic screensaver / xbox on a screen / white linnen.

Oh yeah; a warehouse is normally a good addition, if you have a large number of friends to invite.

hlthyguy also had a good idea with the al green, I would have a lot of al green and curtis mayfield, and Isaac Hayes playing throughout the night, of course with a diverse mix of blues, 90's rap, folk...shit anything good.

A few people jamming out, and maybe I feel up to it swim will jump on the guitar too,

lots of cannabis, a good bit of beer, an adequate amount of vodka, and of course a few 40's of nasty nasty St. Ides for swim. Any other drugs are BYOD. Hopefully someone will share whatever he or she brought with the host (swim) if he wants some.

not too many people, but enough to be able to keep things interesting. Lots of old friends swim hasn't seen in a long time and misses.

SWIM thinks most of the good party elements have already been said... Emphasis on "No drama" and "Not going overboard on alcohol"... the two seem to go hand in hand.
