Rep. Zuckerman introduces marijuana decriminalization bill in Vermont

MONTPELIER — Nineteen legislators introduced a bill Tuesday that seeks to decriminalize possession of a small amount of marijuana.

The bill — H. 150 — would make possession of one ounce or less subject to a civil penalty with up to $100 fine. Rep. David Zuckerman, P-Burlington, the lead sponsor of the bill, said this would allow police to focus on bigger matters. “Let’s be efficient in our law enforcement’s use of resources,” he said.

Rep. Bill Lippert, D-Hinesburg, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said his panel has other priorities for the session, including legislation to toughen enforcement of sex offenses against children.

Zuckerman said he understands the marijuana bill has long odds. “The wheels are not greased on this bill,” he said.

Re: Rep. Zuckerman introduces marijuana decriminalization bill in Vermont

Well, they don't seem to be too happy about the idea of passing this bill. However it's more up to the people than anybody, so if people in Vermont want it they have to fight for it. They will need to be calling up their representatives and telling them what they think and why if they expect this thing to go through.
