Thoughts on Narconon
Swim went to narconon Vista Bay from 2/09 until 5/09 and just saw his first sober year pass in 25 years, since age 15.
It would take three months (or more) to explain the technology, but note that there is no "god" or "religion" involved, just information that relies upon one's common sense and ability to reason. There is no lifetime stigma of "incurale disease" or "addict". Swim learned about choices and their effects and right and wrong, among other things. I highly recommend narconon to anyone serious about living drug or alcohol free. It worked where 2 other 12-step rehabs and countless meetings failed. Any other Swims out there narconon grads? |

Re: Thoughts on Narconon
Study through 8 books, with tests and all, a scholastic-like setting where attendees are referred to as "students". Book 2 is the "new life detoxification program", where you go through a daily regimen of exercise, diet, vitamins, and sauna to flush the toxins from your body. I spent 35 days in "sauna", the average was probably 3 weeks, while I saw people spend 80-90 days. The whole program and all of its parts "takes as long as it takes". It can be very frustrating at times, but takes a lot of hard work and is consequently very rewarding. Many people drop out and don't finish, it takes determination. I learned how to live. What things like truth, communication, responsibility, ethics, and honesty are and how one's actions affect each and every aspect of one's life. It's easy to say those words, but trust me that I learned what their true meanings are. One has to look at his or her ENTIRE life and their actions and understand their affects. I hope this helps a little, but I know the consensus amongst those I met there is it really cannot be understood without experiencing it. All I know is for someone like me, a skeptic about everything and especially religion, it was the perfect program.

Re: Thoughts on Narconon
I'm sure their programs work very well but its surprising that they never pushed religion onto you as they are funded by the Church Of Scientology.
Was is expensive? |

Re: Thoughts on Narconon
Being one who recovered through 12 step means, this really interests me. One failing of 12 step programs is that so many people within them seem to condemn other methodologies. The problem with other programs like Narconon, is that they seem to condemn 12 step programs. Narconon, from what I know about it, (having only just read this thread) seems like a holistic approach. Holistic is really the way to go. Some people who do well with 12 steps, go holistic on their own naturally as a logical part of their recovery process, but other methods should always be considered with an open mind
I actually Just read Chris Prentiss' book, "The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure", and it's a great book with tons of very valuable information in it. One has to be open minded when reading it, because it is published to make money and they run a very pricey treatment center, but everyone has to make a living, and after reading the book with an open mind, I found a little bit of what I'd describe as "shameless self promotion", but mostly a sincere desire to help people recover and some most excellent holistic approaches. No one approach works for everyone, but it is my personal belief that it's kind of bullshit that everyone seems to point the finger at AA and NA being wrong. AA and NA are the only ones that are totally not for profit and totally free, and AA and NA as their own entities do not endorse or oppose any other approach. It's also BS when certain AA and NA members discount other approaches, as many of us could benefit from more than one approach combined, and they really can harm newcomers and sponsees but not walking the walk to go along with talking the talk. |

Re: Thoughts on Narconon
Narcanon is DEFINITELY a drawing tool into the business cult of Scientology.
There have been numerous lawsuits past and pending alleging specific incidences of monetary manipulation of believers by the Narcanon-Scientology elite... However, if someone has USED narcanon, then there's no use WORRYING about it now! Forget this little detail (if you've managed to stay away from scientology), and keep moving on with your life!!! Sometimes these criticisms about picking the 1 "TRUE" CORRECT PATH to normality are mostly just detrimental to the entire cause--not just to the path being 'picked-on.' Faith is certainly 100% REQUIRED by the addict living in recovery. FAITH is sometimes nothing more than understanding that your perceptions fail to take into consideration EVERYTHING that's going on in your environment or within your own body. This is what allows the experience of SURRENDER to occur. |

I like how you put that, I've never heard it put quite like that before. Narconon cost 31,000. Cheap if you ask me. |

Re: Thoughts on Narconon
Narconon are known to only use mineral baths and vitamins to ease withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, benzos and heroin. With benzos and alcohol this could be extremely dangerous and with heroin would be extremely unpleasant. Also there have been cases of brainwashing occuring leading to use of auditing which costs thosands and thousands of pounds.
All very shady. I would advise anyone to skip narconon. People have lost their lives thrpough scientology and what for to make the founders rich Read up about it!! |
