A 17-year-old girl has died of a suspected ecstasy overdose after being rushed to hospital from the Big Day Out.
A family friend told 6PR that the girl swallowed her three ecstacy tablets after seeing police at the train station.
Major crime squad police have launched an investigation into who may have supplied the pills, after the girl's friends told investigators she had taken more than one.
The girl was attended to by paramedics after collapsing at the Big Day Out at Claremont Showgrounds yesterday. She was rushed by ambulance to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, but died last night.
Seven festival-goers were hospitalised with drink and alcohol-related problems yesterday.
Police with sniffer dogs laid about 60 charges for drug-related offences at the Showgrounds train station and within the event.
They charged 59 people with possession, four people with intent to sell or supply - including one man who had 20 MDMA, or ecstasy, tablets - and five with possessing smoking implements.
Drugs seized included ecstasy, methamphetamine, cannabis and dexamphetamine.
Thirty-two people were charged with liquor infringements and six people were charged with disorderly conduct.
Police expect to release further details about the suspected drug overdose later today.
