Favorite liquor?
Lizard found a new favorite hard liquor.
He tried Powers for the first time recently. He'd thought he had Irish whiskey figured out from drinking Jameson and Bushmills, but he found this substantially different. It has almost a scotch flavor to it, but unlike scotch (where he finds the flavor overpowering and medicinal), it's light enough that there's no lingering aftertaste. It has that "clean" flavor that he'd experienced from the other two, but there's definitely more going on here than w/ Jameson or Bushmills. He suspects this will be more of a "occasional treat" than a "serious drinking" whiskey: he suspects the distinct flavor might get unpleasant if drinking hard, and will relegate that duty to Beam. Any other comments...what liquor(s) do you like, and why? Decided to open it to all distilled spirits, as a "Favorite whisk(e)y" thread seemed too close to the recent "scotch appreciation" thread. (Incidentally, his second favorite is an "almost vodka" he makes himself from cheap cabernet wine..."almost" because he lets just a taste of the wine come across into the finished product, whereas vodka is technically a "flavorless" spirit). |

Re: Favorite liquor?
My walrus absolutely loves a chilled glass of Stolichnaya on the rocks, as well as the occasional chilled Red Label.
He likes his poison cold!

Right now Swin loves Glenfiddich 15's white chocolatey-goodness, Booker's rich, juicy... deliciousness (?), and... well... Swin likes a lot of scotch and bourbon. |

Re: Favorite liquor?
Nothing beats a tumbler full of ice and Glenlivet. Maybe add a spalsh of water for the lightweights. Stir for a minute then let the smoothness take all your cares away.... I'm making myself thirsty

Re: Favorite liquor?
Whisky is SWIMs preferred drink but on special occasions he loves Chartreuse, the green kind. It packs an invigorating herbal punch that will trump even the finest of modern absinthes, just drink it slow and ice-cold.
Incidentally, SWIM has heard that Power's is actually the most popular whiskey in Ireland. If this flavor profile is your bag you might consider trying some Canadians, like Wiser's or VO. |

Re: Favorite liquor?
Cowboy is a beer man, not a big fan of hard liquor. When he does drink, however, he prefers vodka and tequila (the latter because he is Mexican). Cowboy likes vodka because it doesn't taste like anything, which makes it best for mixing with other beverages; his fave brand is Grey Goose (France). Tequila is the only liquor that Cowboy doesn't mind drinking straight, possibly because of his heritage. His fave tequila brands are Patrón (any variety) and Orendain Almond flavour. The latter has an excellent flavour and is extremely cheap (about $6 USD per bottle if bought in the right places), but Cowboy thinks it is only available in Mexico

Re: Favorite liquor?
A good, well made bourbon or some white lightning moonshine. I'm still a Tennessee boy at heart despite living in New England lo these many years.
I dont usually post in the Alcohol forum even though I love to drink, so i'm not sure if swimming is required when discussing this legal drug, so go easy on me if i broke a rule. |
