I've read that people taking SSRIs will not experience the full effects of LSD. So what I'm wondering is this: suppose that someone who is NOT on SSRIs (or at least, has not been for a few weeks) takes LSD and then they start having a bad trip and freaking out. Would taking an SSRI at that point help to end the person's trip? And if so, how long would it take for this to work?
Thanks in advance. |

Re: Will taking an SSRI help end a scary trip?
The studies showing that SSRI's attenuate the effects of LSD all looked at people who had been taking the SSRI for some weeks.
Given that we know that SSRI's take at least a few weeks to exert their full effects I can't imagine that a single dose would be particularly helpful. Benzodiazepines are a safe, tried and tested way of helping with overwhelming anxiety (which is unresponsive to talking a person down, or a change of physical environment) so the flamingo would go with that, if chemical means are necessary. Depending on what benzo is being used they take anywhere from 5 (ish) minutes (Alprazolam) to half an hour or so (Diazepam) Anti-psychotics should NOT be used, because of their anti-cholinergic side effects, which may worsen a bad trip, and the potential for hypertensive crisis if one has inadvertantly ingested a DOx type compound rather than LSD Please bear in mind also, that SSRI's have a rather proplonged wash-out period. So a few weeks may not be enough to have them completely out of your monkeys system, and the monkey may still not achieve the effects from LSD that they desire |

Quote:
Benzodiazepines are prescribed to patients with stress disorders and other conditions that produce anxiety. It is illegal to solicit drugs from a doctor for recreational use. This has been a PSA from songcycle. |
