Capsules and reduced kratom potency - a theoretical solution
Problems with Kratom
Toss-n-Wash is not convenient/socially acceptable for regular Kratom use and many people have trouble with the taste/texture of ingesting finely powdered Kratom. Most people also find Kratom teas to be relatively unpalatable - and teas can't be stored for very long. One way around these problems is to put Kratom powder into capsules. They store well, they're easy to take in any setting with a relative low-profile, they don't taste like anything. Capsules are made by filling empty gelatin capsules with powder, compressing the powder and refilling until no more powder will fit, then pressing the end of the capsule into place. The gelatin dissolves readily in the stomach, and the intention is that the powder is then released into the system. But something goes wrong for a lot of people - and the potency of encapsulated Kratom powder is often significantly lower than the same amount of powder taken as loose-powder. Anecdotally, the reason for this loss of potency is obvious with some unseemly post-digestive investigation: Careful examination of post-digestive movements shows that often the compressed powder passes through the system with relatively little dispersion. The process of making the capsules makes pellets that are harder to digest. Less digestion = less potency. Drinking a warm beverage with the capsules helps dissolve the Kratom powder pellets - but is still not as efficient as toss-n-wash with loose powder. How's this for a solution? Mix a small amount of Sodium Bicarbonate powder and Citric Acid powder into the Kratom powder before filling the capsules. Not a lot, but enough that once ingested, there would be a sufficient enough chemical reaction to break up the compacted Kratom. Basically - make a low-fizzing Alka-Kratom capsule. Thoughts? This is all theoretical - but it seems like a viable, low-cost, low-impact way of solving the Kratom capsule-problem. |

Re: Capsules and reduced potency - a theoretical solution
Fizzy kratom?
Mmmmm, possibly. I don't know how it would stick on my stomach though, as I am easy to be sick. I do, however wash my krat down with fizzy ginger beer pop. I make little parcels out of rizla papers, the thinnest I can get, and they disperse, as the stomach acid breaks the thin wrapping, so the krat can do its thang. One thing I think can also hamper injestion is cellulose. Humans cant digest celulose, so if krat is wrapped or capped in anything made of cellulose, it wouldnt break through the cellulose. |

Re: Capsules and reduced potency - a theoretical solution
The idea is less about making if fizzy and more about just providing enough of a reaction to break up the compressed pellet once the capsule dissolves.
SWIM is going to experiment with some empty 00 caps this weekend and see what he can see. |

Re: Capsules and reduced potency - a theoretical solution
Please keep us informed. There is countlessannecdotal data about this phenomenon but nothing more than that
