Smoking - Crack Smoking Techniques and Various Technical Questions

Swim prefers the shooter as well. Although it seems to turn black rather quickly! Then foul nasty stingy hit is what swiy gets!! UGH! As far as cleaning implements, Swim uses a long nail. The head was dremeled to scrape the inside. Works great and gets all the resin.

swim wants to know how others found it best to actually melt the rock on a straight shooter? swim used to hold the piece on an angle like / & apply flame /; swim would spin the piece as this went on ... then with the piece straight out, hit it.

swim wondered when you melt it, when do you stop. swim usually likes to see the rock dip to half it's size. would the rock melting entirely be best?

SWIM would like to read the opinions to the last part of this. SWIM is tired of wasting rock. Regular lighters go out from SWIM pulling too hard (SWIM is a hard hitter), seems the hotter the flame the faster it burns the quicker SWIM needs to pull before burn. SWIM also doesn't have hand-eye coordination for flame "on & off" technique. Trial and error is costly.

SWI-henryfree ... does SWIY use a clipper lighter? These lighters work much better than your regular bic lighters (which have a tendancy to blow-up on the user). Also, if SWIY has a problem with hand-eye co-ordination when smoking, then perhaps SWIY should opt for a home-made pipe out of an empty drinks bottle (evian water for example), and put a tube in it. SWIY can make a tube out of a cut up bic pen or a straw (SWIM usually finds that McDonalds straws are the perfect size for a tube). Opting for this method SWIY can experiment with different lengths of tube to find the perfect size that allows SWIY to light his own pipe comfortably. SWIM usually goes for a fairly short tube cos she has small lung capacity and finds it hard to pull for too long on the tube but if SWIY is a 'hard-hitter' as he says he is then a longer tube should work ok for SWIY. Btw, SWIM used to be really useless at lighting her own pipe and had to get someone to do it for her much of the time but it is something that can be learnt in time and technique can be improved upon.
SWIM would have to say though that she prefers the 'lighter on and off' trick when smoking crack - sometimes you get some gear that burns up too quick - quicker than usual - if SWIY holds the lighter on full force then there is a risk that you will waste it. Even if SWIY is smoking crack on a plastic bottle (makeshift pipe), it is possible to light the gear gently to begin with and inhale gently at first (pulling smoke into the empty chamber of the bottle/pipe until it is full to capacity with thick white crack-smoke - yeah ... that's what i'm talkin' about!!!) and then when it's full up with smoke, hit it real hard. SWIM likes to leave enough room in her lungs so she can inhale a little air after the hit (not sure if this really does anything, but someone once taught her to do this with a cannabis bong - cos it pushes more of the smoke further down into the lungs apparently - dunno if this is true - could be bollocks but what the heck! It can't hurt, right?!!). Then hold the smoke in for as long as humanely possible.
Also, standing up will allow SWIY to fill more of SWIY's lungs when smoking too. Sometimes SWIM likes to sit down to have a pipe though and then stand up just as she's inhaled as it can give her a major head rush! Don't know anyone else who does that though - it's just SWIM's little 'thing', lol.

SWIM really likes using a mini torch along with the Vector premium butane. The flame is easily adjustable. But it's bulky. Standing up is something SWIM hadn't considered but will do next time. SWIM tried the "extra" little pull of air at the end of inhaling but SWIM tends to not have the lung capacity. SWIM believes the issue is with the lighting it SWIMself and the brillo. SWIM smokes alone in the privacy of home so seldom that SWIM hasn't mastered the art of the "pipe", but SWIM insists on a shooter of thick glass/pyrex. Ex-BF introduced SWIM to the rose stem and SWIM just can't do expensive rock on anything less than a good shooter. Snobbish maybe but SWIM respects the rock too much, rather not do it at all if shooter isn't durable (no cracking).

SWIM is going to test different methods next time, 2 stems, one choreboy copper brillo the other with the stainless steel choreboy. One using mini torch the other with clipper lighter. Hopefully SWIM can do this right and stop messing around.

Use a Stormproof lighter is the best way (both up side down or differnet angel burning).

Prepare a wet towel to cool down the pipe which can slow down crack melting into the copper scouring, this way can safe much more crack and smoke for the next shot.

This is slightly off topic perhaps, but as we're talking about different kinds of lighters for smoking, it just reminded SWIM of something that happened to her once: SWIM was at a friend's house having a smoke. She'd just had her first pipe and it must've blown her head off cos she can't believe her stupidity and what happened next ... SWIM took the metal part off a bic lighter and turned the gas up on it. She loaded up another pipe and used the bic lighter (without putting the metal casing back on), by turning it upside down to light her pipe. She put the lighter back down on the coffee table and sat back on the sofa to take in the full effects of the hit she'd just had. A few seconds later she heard her friends voice next to her go 'Oh shit!' and he got up and ran outta the room with something alight in his hands. It was the bic lighter. The plastic part of the lighter had caught fire when SWIM had turned it upside down to light her pipe. She was so out of it that she hadn't noticed this when she put it back down. A few seconds later, if her friend hadn't been so alert and the lighter would've no doubt gone bang. SWIMs friend had run outside with it and chucked it over his balcony. That's why SWIM always uses a clipper lighter.

SWIM once told me that the best smoking pipe was made by burning 2 holes in a small vitamin bottle with a cig. Then stick a pen tube in one hole and put foil on top of bottle. The back hole is for SWIY's finger.
Throw some ash on top, place rock, and enjoy!

SWIM has noticed that most places no longer sell the "Rose Stems" which were perfect to make crack pipes with (probably because of how obvious it became).

So, on a crack-pipe mission the other day, SWIM found a 1 stop Walgreens solution. He bought a pack of Chore Boy copper scrubbers, and a 2 pack of glass eye droppers. This cost about $5. Then he snapped the smaller end of the eye dropper off, burned off the shit on the Chore Boy, wadded it up, inserted it in the glass tube, and - Tada! - crack pipe.

Yep, the roste stems are a thing of the past here in the Lone Star State. But SWIM found at the local dollar store (everything's 99cents)cone incense packaged in glass stems!!!!
