Trying So Hard to Kick Adderall

SWIM's been on stimulants for about 16 years, originally crystal, and then a kind psychiatrist informed swim that swim was "self-medicating" ADHD, and wouldn't swim rather get speed from a pharmacy? Of course, and so begins (and ends) w/addiction to large doses of stimulants for many years. SWIM has decided that enough is enough is enough etc. etc. that stimulant addiction was having a negative impact on the quality of swim's life, and swim must quit.

Now,swim is very familiar w/psych meds.... been on 'em for 6 years. They suck in swim's opinion. They leave swim in a much worse space then if swim had never taken them. But what does swim do when swim wants to quit adderall. Swim goes right back to the psychiatrist, who prescribes SIX psychoactive medications to get swim off of stims. Crazy. Swim has dropped from 120 mg. daily to 30 mg. daily in about a week. But swim's head is swimming, and this is so difficult.

wow swim has the same story. he quit meth then a nice dr offered legal speed to ensure he stayed off the meth. im afraid there is no easy way i know except what you are already doing. now that you're down to 30mg i'd say next step should be 0. you probably already know the rutine it sucks at first but after some time it will suck less. swim still craves meth everyday and its going on 6 months for him but its fairly comfortable compared to the insane cravings at first

swim has never personally been addicted to any uppers, doesn't like any enough to persue habitual use, but has had prescriptions before and has used illegally obtained uppers. with the ease in getting these drugs, he can clearly see how this could be a difficult habbit to quit.

if SWIM is using adderall atleast some what legally, he should talk to his doctor about his habit. the DR will likely be able to help more that I can, and probably more than most people on this board.

The only thing to due with amphetamine addiction is to quit cold turkey. It's physically a cake walk but mentally it is quite challenging, best thing is to find a hobby that you don't associated with speed use.

For SWIM, he would use uppers every day until his prescription ran out. But when the prescription ran out, it was really no problem for him to quit cold turkey. He had no problem waiting for the next prescription to come. That is one thing that is good about amphetamines, the ability to quit cold turkey pretty easily. Good luck

That is completely off topic... We're talking about long term (meth)amphetamine dependencies here... swim recently came off of a daily (only 7 month) IV meth habit. I would agree that the only way to go is cold turkey, and if you do slip up like swim has a few times, don't give up and relapse into full blown using again! swim is at about 3 weeks off the shit now, but had cut down substantially before last relapse... It sounds like you really want to quit the shit, so thats all you really need, if you find yourself thinking about it just think about something else.
