Is it dangerous to combine the two? Tramadol and codeine for example was what SWIM was thinking about. |

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
SWIM says this combo works very well. SWIM prefers a Xanax/Tramadol combo, but thinks a klonopin one is close.

I have mixed tramadol & hydro, tramadol & codeine and found
this to be OK, nothing special. The tramadol doesn't add much. Anecdotally, it seems that heavy "traditional" opiate users get NOTHING from tramadol. Opiate naive people seem to get a good, hydrocodone like kick from it at 150mg - 300mg doses. More than 300mg makes me kooky, sweaty, loopy, and can't shit for a fucking week. Don't do it, you'll pay. This is one drug that seems to affect people in vastly distinct ways. Some people get energy & euphoria, others a headache and dysphoria. Weird. |

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
For those whom have taken oter opiates recreationally Tramadol is going to be more than a disappointment.
Tramadol is not even really an opioid. The quick low down on what makes an opiate / opioid is this- Any drug which is either derived from, semi or fully stynthetic from Opium poppy. Tramadol cuts itself out of that class all together except for the fully stynthetic part. If the Tramadol molecule was modeled from something from Opium poppy, which it ISNT. Tramadol itself has almost no mu-opioid affinity. Tramadol needs to be metabolized by the liver (in a simmilar way to Codeine) to produce the quasi-opioid it is known for (D-Methyl Tramadol) which DOES have an affinity to mu-opioid receptors but is a much smaller affinity than other real opiates. The long and short of it is, people whom have not done much in the way of strong opiates may get a decent feeling from it, the others whom have done alot of REAL opiates will probably feel nothing at all because they are used to a feeling that the affinity of Tramadols metabolite just cannot reach. Although others disagree the fact remains that Tramadol has more in common with SSRI, NADI and MOA drugs than with any opiate. just an opinion

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
Noradrenalin reuptake inhibitors and Moazamine drugs, Sorry SWIyou may have a different reference for these drugs in SWIyour country and one should have thought of that.
Hope this has been of help

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
Ah, then it's NARI. The correct category for tramadol (regarding its effects on monoamine reuptake) would be SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor), since tramadol is not a SSRI (it is not a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor because it also inhibits NE reuptake). But what are moazamine drugs?

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
Just typo . . . SWIM is very tired. Meant monoamine as SWIY suggested. One was under the impression that Tramadol was selective in its SRI capabilities from what one has read, sorry if one was mistaken.

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
MonoAmine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) are what SWIT's talking about. They raise the levels of almost every neurotransmitter but typically serotonin and norepinephrine more than the others. They are usually thought to be one of the last resorts for treating depression because the user's diet has to restrict anything that contains tyramine in it (cheese, beer, certain types of bread, and definitely certain dietary supplements) because the tyramine will release a large amount of norepinephrine at once whilst the MAOI will prolong the action of that norepinephrine and the user could die from a hypertensive crisis or stroke/heart attack, ect...

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
What does the fact that tramadol is a monoamine say? Many drugs are monoamines, morphine and its derivatives included.
Tramadol is not a MAO inhibitor. |

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
Never suggested that it was a MAO just said it "has more in common with"
Just suggesting that it has more in common with anti-depressant drugs from all 3 similar actions than it does with opioid drugs especially with its small mu-opioid affinity (even with the metabolite). One knows that it is classed this way (as an opioid) and one also knows that it can be a good pain killer for those whom it works on (not many in ones experience) but in SWIMs own opinion it will never be an opioid, in other medical chems and bio-chems eyes it is not an opiate either. It is of much debate within those communities. |

Re: Thoughts On Tramadol (synthetic Opiate)
Chemically, morphine is a monoamine, but if you look at its structure, morphine has many more rings than say dopamine, which only has one ring. The monoamine oxidase enzyme that the MAOI drugs are designed to inhibit are nothing like the inihibitor that would need to be designed to inhibit the enzyme that metabolizes morphine, UDP-Glucuronosyltransferase-2B7, or UGT2B7. Again, he never said tramadol was a maoi. Please read more carefully because we're putting time into this discussion and so should you.
