Codeine Storage

Since SWIM really doesn't enjoy the whole process of CWE, he thought about taking one day to make maybe 5 or 6 separate "servings" so he could just take it whenever he wanted without having to go through the hassle. However, he was wondering how long you can store the codeine water for, and whether it needs to be refrigerated or not?

Re: Codeine Storage

UTFSE! This has been covered many times before.Well from swim's experience all he's ever tried has been one day as a matter of fact he extracted some yesterday and is enjoying it right now.Although he's feeling it just fine he thinks he might have lost some potency, but if he has the difference is insignificant.

It was refrigerated and yes, you're supposed to refrigerate since codeine is sensitive to heat and light. The fridge should keep it cool and dark.If you have the time and money, I would suggest doing one big extraction, divide it into 2 equal parts and drink one now and the other one 3-4 days later and then you could post the results on D.F

Re: Codeine Storage

SWIM currently is testing this as we speak. SWIM did a 600mg extraction on monday, and SWIM has been letting the glass of about 250ml sit in a closed dark cabinet at room temperature. SWIM is going to try and hold off on taking it until monday too see how it affected it. Again i'll repeat, SWIM has a glass of 250ml with an estimated 600mg of codeine in it. SWIMs giving it a week in a dark space, at room temperature, not sealed.

Re: Codeine Storage

Well SWIM can deal with the taste getting worse, but will the oxidation degrade the quality of the codeine though?

Re: Codeine Storage

Swim would definitely NOT leave it UN-covered. Swim is not a "germaphobe" by any means but, just the normal "every-day" airborne dust and dander could be enough to "contaminate" swiy's glass of goodies. Swim would at the very least put some plastic wrap or some tin-foil over the mouth of the glass.

Swim does NOT think oxidation would harm swiy's product (letting it sit for only a week) but swiy might find that there is quite a bit less liquid left in the glass from evaporation due to the normal "dryness" of the air during the winter months even if swiy uses a "humidifyer" in swiy's house.

Re: Codeine Storage

Sorry if this is OT:

Supposing swim does a CWE and then evaporates the water off. How should he store the resulting precipitate and how long would it last for? Would this be the best method for long-term storage?

Re: Codeine Storage

Swim say's that if swiy were to keep it in an "airtight" container, in a cool, dark place, and can actually stay out of it, there is no limit as to how long it can be stored.

On a "sidenote", swim has ran across some of his old script bottles (Vicodin 10/325's) that were more than 10 yrs. old that had been kept in a stable temp. dry, dark medicine cabinet and noticed NO loss of pain-killing ability.

Re: Codeine Storage

What is the best/fastest method to evaporate CWE water?

Swim is putting it in an aluminium foil in a bowel and then putting it in a low temp fan oven. Is this ok? What temperature would the codeine start to be destroyed?

If you wanna risk it, then go ahead and experiment. But if you're limited or don't wanna loose the stuff then you should probably just let it evaporate by itself.Remember, patience is a virtue!

Re: Codeine Storage

Because SWIM is a student in food processing industriy, denaturing of proteins, begins to 50-60°C.
SWIM thinks but she isn't sure that codeine contains "NO3" in its formula. And SWIM believes "NO33 is a kinda protein, so she thinks to keep intact codeine molecule the best to do is to keep codeine in the fridge or in a cool and dark place, like for example , your cupboard.

You should be very careful in doing that. It is very likely that the heat will still ruin the codeine. If you are too impatient to carry out a slow evaporation, I gave an alternative in the stickied CWE thread - freebasing the codeine from the CWE solution.
