Opiate Hiccups??

So Swim is a daily opiate user at around 100 mgs a day. She has been using opiates for quite a while, and she has noticed that she gets hiccups all the time! she didnt get them this much before she started becoming dependant on opiates, and she talked to a friend and fellow user and found that she had the same effect, so we decided it must be the pills.

Swim was wondering if there is anyone else out there who gets this side effect, and more importantly, if anyone know why this happens?
did a quick search and didnt find anything, swim was just wondering.

Re: Opiate Hiccups??

SWIM has recently started using oxycodone about 60mg a day and she also hiccups like crazy. Swim also gets crazy twitching in her eyes, does that happen to SWIY to, what opiates does SWIY take?

Re: Opiate Hiccups??

The eye twitches seem common, SWIM gets it and so do a lot of other people he knows whom use Oxycodone.

One has no idea why or how it is stopped.

Re: Opiate Hiccups??

SWIPA is an Opiate addict. He is a regular Pod Tea user - about 60 Grams a day and whatever pills he gets his hands on as well. He does get the hiccups but they are usually prominent at the end of the day (before bed really) after he has drank all his tea for the day and is starting to wind down - he will eat something - say chicken - and as he takes a few bites it feels weird to swallow and bam.....hiccups. Also happens when drinking something around the same part of the day. SWIPA also used to experience this w/ Benzos (Alprazolam and Temazepam). The same type of thing. He'd be fine until he ate some food - in fact he'd be fine chewing it even - but once he started to swallow it - bam hiccups.

Yes for SWIPA - he only really gets them like that when he has taken opiates/oids or Benzo's.

Re: Opiate Hiccups??

yes swim has noticed the hiccups occur most frequently right after she starts feeling nausia, which will happen ocasionally due to a very high daily intake of opiates.
She never acutally throws up from opiates, in fact she never has, but she will every so often feel nausia, which is usually followed by getting the hiccups. The thing is, she can get rid of them temporarily using traditional methods, but they always come back a little bit later, and sometimes she cannot get rid of them even when using the methods that have always worked for her. They are not a big problem, but they do get in the way since swim is a waitress and it can be awkward trying to take someones order while your hiccuping!

Re: Opiate Hiccups??

A certain giraffe has experienced this before, but only with h. He had to deal with hiccups going into the next day. The giraffe thinks they either contributed to the nausea (hiccups make stomach feel queasier) or were somehow a byproduct of it. His smoking probably didn't help the situation. He tells me the hiccups went right away after he worked on controlled breathing and held his breath a few times. Just holding one's breath (and sipping water during, as someone on another forum suggested) does more to quell the giraffe's hiccups than any of the "traditional" home remedies everyone seems to know of.
