Painkillers

SWIM has severe back pain from 3 lumbar punctures that were done over a year ago and didn't go textbook...

SWIM has been prescribed Co-Codamol 30/500 for pain but this doesn't help and SWIM will be seeing his GP tomorrow. SWIM has also tried anti inflammatory ect. SWIM will be seeing the GP tomorrow

Can SWIM ask for something stronger without coming across as some drug addict?

Re: Painkillers

Well, I wouldn't ask for anything stronger unless the consult comes to an end and he doesn't offer you anything.Just say that you're in pain and that what he prescribed you is helping but not enough and if he doesn't offer you anything else, then just ask if you could have something else for the pain.

Now there are 3 things you never do:

1-say the name of any pain medication
2-exaggerate
3-insist if he says no the first time

Good luck, Robo

Re: Painkillers

mention that you have felt somewhat better, but that the pain is still uncomfortable and that it is making it difficult to do everyday things. but like robocodeine said, dont name anything, and dont exaggerate!

Re: Painkillers

SWIM went to see the GP and got some Ibuprofen to go along with the Co-Codomol and was told to see if that helps, if not ring back tomorrow for something stronger.

SWIM also was given Tizanidine for his muscle spasms.

I'll keep you posted

Re: Painkillers

SWIM is about to run out of Co-Codomol and is about to ring the doctor so he isnt without pain relief at the weekend.

Would now be a good time to ask for something stronger? Co-Codomol doesnt have the same painkilling effect anymore.
