lost the magic?

for years my pet donky has been unable to get "drunk" now he can get blacked out drunk falling all over everything in site, but he doent even feel drunk in the slightest short of a small body buzz. this continues even after 90 day breaks. Is it gone for good? Or would a longer break be needed to feel effects again?

Gee, that's unfortunate. Lizard hasn't had tolerance that persistant (if indeed that's what it is), but he has noticed that tolerance to the euphoric effects of alcohol build more rapidly than tolerance to the physical side effects.

Some possibilities:
- It's been theorized that one reason some get much more "kick" out of booze is because it acts upon the opiate receptors to some extent in susceptible individuals (not really sure how; something about "tetrahydroisoquinoline" from metabolic breakdown products, though I've heard them said to be inert). IF true, this explains why a. antagonists are used to some effect in treatment of alcoholism and b. continuous opiate use seems to curtail drinking (whether from bieng a "better" agonist or from down-regulation would be WAY beyond my pay grade, LOL).

So, I guess the question would be: has grandma recently started taking opiate-cessation meds, or increased her consumption of opiates?

Re: lost the magic?

Opiates are used very rarely, maybe 1-2 times every other month.

Re: lost the magic?

SWIM has no real idea why SWIY isn't enjoying the booze, but maybe it's because with such massive breaks between drinks SWIY gets to the confusing part before he has time to enjoy the feel-good part. Some tolerance is needed to prevent confusion setting in too soon.

The only evidence SWIM has is his own experience. After a month or so without a drink he finds the first session back to be not as good as he remembered it. Once back in the swing of regular drinks (drunk 2 or 3 times a week) he remembers just how good it is. In short, drink more.

At least I think that's what the doctor told me...
