So after making some tea, nobody is looking at a half pound of seeds that sure as hell aren't all going into bagel making, and they were thinking, "what a waste to flush them down the toilette."
Back before the snow, nobody had noticed a few seeds sitting around were beginning to sprout, so was taking them to local wastelands and empty lots for dispersal. Even if only 5% of them are viable, a half pound is SHIT LOADS of seeds. By next year, with luck, there's going to be a lot more poppies around this city. Not only will they make urban blight a bit more colorful, but may provide a source for more seeds, heads, maybe even latex. But now there's snow, and wet seeds won't last. Decided to talk to some bird people, and it seems that poppy seeds are an excellent high calorie bird food. Seems the little buggers aren't bothered by the alkaloids, so it is unlikely you will end up with flocks of junkie pigeons hanging outside of bagel stores... We're having a bitter cold snap at the moment and nobody is sure the local sparrows will be more then pleased. Might be able to dry them out and burn them, the oil content would probably make them bright and warm, of course they may pop all over the place. Going to have to try that next bonfire. Any one else got anything they do with their seeds? |

Re: things to do with "spent" poppy seeds
Composting them is always a good idea,or you could dry them out and save them for next year to plant. Grandma says that theres still some alkaloid content left so you could save them up and do a second extract. Or in the future you could always do a CWE extract and have tons of viable seeds left for planting.
Argghh grandmas been looking for seeds at all her local health food stores and cant find them anywhere!! Lucky basterd! |

Re: things to do with "spent" poppy seeds
SWIM doesnt use seed material for any of his hypothetical experiments. However, SWIM saves his seeds. As with all genetic traits in plants, if the mother plant is potent then its potential to pass those genetics on to its next generation is high. Therefor SWIM keeps seeds categorized what/when/where/how/result so he has a guideline to go from when crossbreeding. SWIM is of the opinion that through selective breeding he has theoretically improved certain strains up to 30% w/v.

Re: things to do with "spent" poppy seeds
yeah, swim has had great results with this; swim grew a little garden about the size of a car by just throwing his used seeds into the dirt.
Dr. Mario added 15 Minutes and 27 Seconds later... Sorry to get off topic; but swim is so high on tea; one of those magical highs were swim can just lay in bed for hours dreaming..........Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh......... ........... Re: things to do with "spent" poppy seeds
Yes they can have a low germination rate but also some seeds seem to respond well to this situation and sprout easier because the seed wall has been pre-softened.
Most of the research SWIM has read on this subject has had mixed results. Peace
