Do drugs effect animals like they do humans?

so swim was wondering if animals were to take drugs would they alter said animals conciousness or would the psychoactives not interact with the animal brain the same way as a human brain. Swims heard anecdotal things about animals on drugs.

Swim has seen cats on catnip and they're blatently getting wasted but catnip doesn't work for humans. SWIM did see the video of a cat on LSD but wheather it was tripping or just having some sort of wierd reaction to it is unclear.
