MDMA and the sense of taste & smell
Does anyone have comments or stories about MDMA's effects on the sense of taste and/or smell? Here is a story I heard.
**************
A couple of weeks ago a monkey was sitting down and rolling on a real nice ecstasy pill. Monkey thinks this stuff was pure, or nearly pure, MDMA.
Someone popped a stick of chewing gum into monkey's mouth. This kind of gum had been a favorite of his when he was a kid monkey, but in adult life it never did much for him. But wow, this time he had a taste explosion...the flavor was so good he couldn't believe this was just normal chewing gum, and the taste sensation was so intense it was bordering on synesthesia.
Later someone walked by and held up a drink for monkey to take a sip through the straw. Monkey did, and he had an equally strong but completely opposite reaction. His face twisted in disgust as the horrid taste of the alcohol blended with the burn of it washing over his inner membranes and completely overwhelmed him. Monkey later asked what the drink was and was told that it was a Long Island Ice Tea (made with cheap ingredients).
Later someone popped a breath mint into monkey's mouth, and it was similar as the chewing gum.
The ecstasy may have awakened his sense of smell even more than his sense of taste. And it has stayed that way. Monkey had not worn cologne in many years, but he has suddenly found himself very interested in fragrances. He picked up a couple of bottles of old favorites, which have been nice to wear again. But even better has been some new ones he has discovered. It is now a pleasure to walk into a department store and try out a new cologne. He also made a lady friend very happy by giving her some luxurious perfume as a gift, something he hadn't done before.
In short, the ecstasy did something to awaken monkey's sense of smell, and the result has been really nice.

Now my question:
What I think is that MDMA has the potential to affect all senses, and for whatever reason it really worked on this monkey's sense of taste and smell on this particular occasion. So my proposition is that there is not anything unique about MDMA that caused this, and other psychedelic drugs could have caused a similar awakening of the senses of taste and smell. Would you agree with this, or does anyone think that MDMA does have a particular ability to work on taste and smell?
