Leaf chewing thoughts
SWIM is chewing coca leaves for the first time. After the first try with fair results SWIM was thinking about how to reduce the time for oral absorption.
If the coca tea bags were pre-treated with sodium bicarb and then moistened and allowed to sit for about 30 minutes before placing in the mouth, would this allow for faster absorption? Or does it take about 30 minutes or so for the coca to be fully absorbed. Is it possible to pre-treat multiple bags for use over an extended period of time? Just some thoughts SWIM was having. |

Re: Leaf chewing thoughts
not really. pre-treatment does not help as the alkaloids have to freebase out of the leaves into the saliva, and then into the bloodstream.
for pretreatment, one would want to focus on some kind of extract, and place this liquid in the mouth. problem is saliva's pH does play a role in this case. wetting the bags before use does help speed things up a little, but the absorption through the mouth's mucous membrane does take time. try reading the threads on crude / full spectrum coca extracts b |

Re: Leaf chewing thoughts
Thanks Benga for the tips.
After reading through some of the extraction methods SWIM has decided to try the cold solvent extraction method with the inverted bottle. Possibly warming the solvent for each pass. Would room temp evaporation of the resulting solution be too slow and cause the degradation of the extracted alkaloids? Or would a faster evaporation be more preferable. |

Re: Leaf chewing thoughts
Swim dumps the contents of 2 teabags into mouth and tucks it between teeth and cheek like a tobacco plug in a redneck movie. After about 10 minutes, he adds about 1/4 tsp of baking soda to the plug and waits for results. If there has been a lot of saliva buildup before it's time to add the soda, swim will sometimes swallow it. However, once the soda is added, he won't swallow saliva. If it starts building up after soda is added, swim simply dumps the contents of another teabag into the mouth and adds it to the plug. The loose leaf absorbs the excess saliva nicely, allowing swim to hold the contents in the cheek comfortably for a longer period. Swim usually adds a little more soda when he adds additional tea leaves to the plug. Swim discards the whole mess once numbness begins to fade--usually around 45-60 minutes.
Swim tells me that it doesn't do any good to repeat this process immediately after doing it the first time. Swim says nothing happens so it's a waste of tea to do it. He waits at least an hour or two before enjoying leaf again. Swim says the effect is subtle but pleasant, and it helps him avoid reaching for snuff or nicotine gum--one of swim's vices. |

usually one to two teabags at a time, but swim sometimes "chews" continuously for a few hours, adding a teabag when the quid starts to lose potency. try it with the actual teabag paper, it allows one to press on the quid harder with the cheek, and most of all can be prepared in advance and simply popped in the mouth with no other preparation. The thin paper doesn't reduce the quid's potency, but does delay the onset a little. with good coca, the effects are more than subtle if the saliva is kept long enough. b |

Re: Leaf chewing thoughts
Thanks Benga. Swim does use the paper teabags when in public settings or work, and it certainly does work fine. Swim looks forward to trying peruvian teas after his supply of bolivian teabags runs out.

Re: Leaf chewing thoughts
Swim tried to make 'chewable' teabags sewn with thin linen cloth. Worked fairly well. Swim was able to use teeth to macerate the bag with tea in the mouth without the bag breaking. Takes alittle while longer to soak cloth teabag with saliva... so pre-wetting the bag by dipping in water helped. Swim is going to experiment more in the near future. Swim has never been able to hold saliva in mouth for optimum experience.
