Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
I have a SEVERE sleep disorder. SWIM's doc had/has him on Klonipin. SWIM does not the idea of being on a Benzo for any period of time so he requested to try Lunesta 3mg tabs. It's supposed to knock you the fuck out for 7-8 hours but didn't do shit x-cept put a weird metallic taste in the back of my throat. Not to mention it costs $160 for 30 tabs... WTF??
Anyone got any advice on this BS?? |

Re: Any opinions on Lunseta?
Eszopiclone (lunesta) swim never used it but is on zopiclone 7.5mg and thinks zolpidem (ambien) is a lot better. Zopiclone doesn't seem to work after a tolerance..

Re: Any opinions on Lunseta?
SWIM tried Ambien. Shit isn't worth a fuck either. SWIM took 5 10mg tabs and barely napped. 4 Klonipin and a few Clonidine will put the horse down for about 4 hours. SWIATWA Seroquel is for Bi-polar Disorder not sleep disorder..

Re: Any opinions on Lunseta?
Sorry to hear that if zolpidem (amdien) doesn't work, then nitrazepam might be of help.. But its more benzo related...

Re: Any opinions on Lunseta?
It is also prescribed off-label as a sleep aid.

SWIM did not respond well to Lunesta much either. Ambien and Sonata worked much better for my friend. But what SWIM said works REALLY well is rozerem. Rozerem is a melatonin reuptake inhibitor, and SWIM said after taking it for a few nights in a row he started to feel more drowsy naturally as bedtime approached, plus he began waking up bright and early with remarkable consistency. It's a bit intense at first but it has several advantages over the other sleep aides. A natural remedy that SWIM HIGHLY recommends is Erythrina mulungu. AFOAF smokes the 90% Alkaloidal extract (which is available from several respectable vendors) after he crawls into bed. After it takes about 10-15 minutes to kick in but he says he gets the nods much like the sedative effects that accompanies smoking opium. While others have described its effects as being comparable to Valium, AFOAF says that valium is not nearly as sedating as Mulungu is. This same friend says Lady's Slipper extract is a good, but unstudied sleep aide. Hope this was of use. Last edited by psilocybley; 22-01-2009 at 19:46. |

Re: Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
Yes Ambien is a waste for severe insomnia. As I stated Seroquel is possibly the best. It is used off label in hospitals throughout the country. But many physicians do not know to use it for sleep. But one can suggest that their doctor read up on it.

Re: Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
Trazodone is another off-label drug for insomnia. The grogginess is too much for my lion, but it works. It's an older one so it would probably be more affordable than newer atypical antipsychotics like Seroquel. Risk of Long Term effects is also more advantageous with Trazodone than with SQ.

Re: Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
SWIM tried Trazodone.. fucking hangovers like a bitch. SWIM has a gift card from Home Depot. I think I will look for the biggest sledgehammer I can find.
SWIM is going to see an actual psychiatrist on Tuesday. Just sick and tired of being tired.lol |

Re: Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
Everyone seems to report hangover. Based on all that SWIM has read and heard, SWIM would highly recommend asking about Rozerem.

Seroquel it is!!
SWIM's psychiatrist did in fact put him onto Seroquel. So the some of you were quite insightful on this. SWIM didn't even mention it and this is still what he put SWIM on. X-nay the Kloinpin he said, unless it still doesn't work. He put swim on 300mgs starting off at 75mg and working up. Doc says some patients are on as much as 1000mg of it. And damn right about it being expensive! Just as expensive as Oxycontin!!

Re: Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
Please post updates in the original thread.
300mg seems rather a lot to treat sleep disorder. In the UK A Certain Mouse usually sees 50 - 150 mg prescribed as a sleep aid (150 being rare). Anyhoo, more information & discussion on Quetiepine (Seroquel) can be found in the Antipsychotics forum. Any questions on this med should be put there. |

Re: Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
Lunesta does nothing to me, for some reason. SWIM took two last night to see if that would help him sleep. Either it takes them 8 hrs to hit him, or he just finally passed out from exhaustion.

Re: Any opinions on Lunesta (Eszopiclone)?
Please note that posts about Quetiapine (seroquel) should be posted over in antipsycotics and NOT double posted here as well!
