So i dont know if its an accomplishment
Hay there everyone. About a month and a half ago I came clean with my family about my opiate abuse. I started a methadone clinic around the same time and i have been "clean" ever since. But see i dont know if i can call it clean since ive been using methadone. I dont know if its an accomplishment or not to be on the methadone and to keep yourself from using street drugs.
I dont know what to think about it. Becuase i really do want to get completely sober and i feel like its cheating to do it this way. But at the same time im pretty positive that if i tried to do it cold turkey that id be setting myself up to fail. Any words of encouragement |

Re: So i dont know if its an accomplishment
I think SWIY has taken massive steps in telling the family, and trying the methadone programme. Certainly, getting away from the street drugs trap can be a major first step in helping you to function mentally without that culture.
A word of warning, as well as encouragement - people can end up on methadone for years and getting off it is no picnic - look at Dickon's thread Screaming in the night air. Still, it may take time to work out what is and isn't right in any set of particular circumstances, so I take my hat off to you and wish you the very best of luck in getting totally clean.

Re: So i dont know if its an accomplishment
SWIM thinks it is an accomplishment. It is definitely a step in the right direction. SWIY is getting away from the old way of life and starting a new one. As SWIY says, going cold turkey might be more than one could take right now. No, it's not cheating. Swiy has told the family, and can taper off the methadone. Many have been able to taper off and do it reasonably with little discomfort. Perseverance is the key. SWIY can cross that bridge later. This forum is a great source of support, with like-minded people. SWIM is currently tapering off of opiates (prescription). Some days are hard, some are not as bad. Hang in there. SWIY did a good thing

Re: So i dont know if its an accomplishment
Swim agrees in that it is a big accomplishment even switching it for the methadone. Swim knows many people infact most people swim knows that have gone on to methadone have ended up taking the H on top of that and becomming addicted to both. So be carefull about that! It is horrible to see them now like that they were trying to have a step in the right direction and ended up worse off! Just take it one step at a time swim thinks your doing really well so far you shold be proud!
