Self incrimination? I am swim?

I don't see how using these terms provided in the self incrimination rules are protecting anyone. I may be wrong, but when you use these words or any other term specifically defined on this site, aren't you showing the reader that you have read the definition of this term, you are specifically following the rules that explain why you are using this term, you understand what the term you are using means, and that you are knowingly using that term in a deliberate effort to protect yourself against the incriminating things you are documenting?

Maybe the self-incrimination message should just say something like, be cautious of how you address yourself when posting incriminating things. And when a sentence requires a word like "me" or "I" use something else if you are talking about something illegal you are involved in. But to say you should use the word "swim" instead when you mean me or I, and theres a section that explains this clearly, I doubt you are protecting yourself in any way.

Re: Self incrimination? I am swim?

In court, things can be ridiculously technical, and when a judge or jury are bringing a harsh charge against you even the smallest bit of of evidence as a defense such as using "Swim" could mean the difference between a couple years in jail or a dismissal of the whole trial.
Most of what is discussed on these types of websites is of no concern to the Feds, but don't think that all this isn't monitored, that would just be silly. So all in all, why not give yourself a fighting chance?
But in all honesty, if you have huge connections, run operations, or for some reason have a huge stash of drugs you really shouldn't be broadcasting it. Just use your common sense.

Re: Self incrimination? I am swim?

I don't know what you are talking about. SWIM does not equal I. You must be mistaken about the meaning behind the term because if SWIM equals I then there would be self-incrimination here and self incrimination is not allowed. Browse the link in my signature for further clarification.

Re: Self incrimination? I am swim?

SWIM is a mere fictional character in a book I am writing.

Re: Self incrimination? I am swim?

I always found that using SWIM clearly means I, it even says in the rules to avoid getting yourself in trouble, say it was SWIM. I don't think "someone who isn't me" would stand a chance in the courtroom.

I understand why it's used and all, but if someone wanted to arrest you, SWIM wouldn't help you out one bit in court. Probable cause would override SWIM easily.

Re: Self incrimination? I am swim?

Yawn! There are several thread covering this debate, most of which are redundant for the following reasons - 1) the Rule is there for a reason, to protect the users & the owner of this site, who by the by did not arbitrarily make the Rule up but has actually done a bit of homework on the subject & learnt from others mistakes; 2) there is nothing in the Rules that sites users of this Forum have to use SWiM; there is a Rule that says users must avoid self-incrimination (admitting to committing or planning illegal acts in the first person - "I did/want to/am going to...). As I have stated elsewhere, SWiM has become a lazy convention. As this is an international Forum & laws governing different substances & the use of them varies so much across the globe, the Rule stands wherever you say you are.

Please not there is also a Rule about posting threads in the correct Forum - this is about Forum functions & use, not Concerta or Ritalin.
