Hi all, I am new to the forum. Have had a little look around already and this looks to be a useful place.
I am posting on behalf of my pet rabbit who has been addicted to codeine (in the form of co-codamol 30/500 tabs) for 2 1/2 years. Up to 10 tablets daily at her worst, but the docs got wise to it and now bunny's prescriptions are closely monitored and she only gets 58 tablets a week delivered to her house. Bunny has found it hard since her meds started getting rationed, for one thing she is genuinely in pain & it's now constant pain because it's poorly controlled, but for the other reason that she also liked to get high from her pills and now she managed to get hooked on them, and tapering dose so quickly was HARD.
Over Xmas holidays Bunny got a whole month's worth of pills because she was going away for the holidays, and that month is up on the 21st (6 days away). Bunny reverted to her old habits coz there was so much cocodamol lying around, and although she was trying to pace herself she finished the box a couple of days ago and then had to go to the pharmacy and buy OTC ones. Finished a whole box of 20 Solpadeine Max in 36 hours, and now has nothing.
Bunny has ordered another box of Solpadeine from online chemist and should be getting them today hopefully, but other than that she has no codeine in the house for the first time in 2 1/2 years. She wishes she could say it was liberating but it isn't! Bunny stayed in bed all day yesterday with horrendous pain & codeine withdrawal symptoms. She would do anything to get hold of some proper 30/500 tabs, the OTC ones don't cut it and anyway, she has to take more of them to get a hit and she's concerned about the amount of paracetamol going into her body. (FYI tho, bunny had a recent liver function test and all was fine, miraculously).
Bunny wants to know how to cope without the codeine for almost a week? She doesn't want to admit to the docs that she's finished the whole box already cos they might not give her any more full stop.
Thanks for listening guys.
