Re: strattera

SWIM was on strattera for about 8 months. The first couple months were pretty good and she did focus better, but she just recently got off of it because she just wasn't feeling it anymore. Strattera isn't a stimluant, but if SWIM remembers correctly, it is an SSRI or some kind of antidepressant. It is not going to give you the same effects as adderall. SWIM is on vyvanse and has yet to try adderall so she cannot tell SWIY of any firsthand experiences of adderall, but she can tell SWIY that from all the research she has done on it, strattera is definitely different...adderall is better! Plus strattera got swim super dizzy at 120mgs. Let SWIM know how SWIY does on it though if SWIY chooses to take it.

Re: strattera

While there is not much talk on this forum of strategra abuse swim has heard positive experiences from most occasional users. Stratera apparently has an SSRI like effect that takes effect in about 15days of use which many people find unpleasant. When swim decided to go off stimulants for his add/ADHD he was offered stratera by his doctor as an alternative. This was back when it was barely out of it's experimental phrases and swim had to look up on his own to find out that many users reported such effects. The sexual side effects made swim decide not to try it

Re: strattera

Strattera / Tomoxetin / Attentin (atomoxetine) is a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor. It was originally designed as an antidepressant, but no beneficial effects in this area were found during tests. It was then approved for treatment of ADHD.

It is not a stimulant and thus will not give the same effects as amphetamine or methylphenidate. It often, like with other neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitors, takes several weeks to months for any change in brain function to be noticeable. This is in stark contrast to stimulants whose effects can be felt less than an hour after the first dose.

It's usually prescribed as a first line of treatment, at least in the United States. If the patient does not improve after several months, a higher dose or stimulants are typically prescribed.

Thumbs up Re: Strattera: Strattera's cousin Reboxetine

Swim's Chimpanzee takes a close relative of Strattera called Reboxetine. Rebox has a longer half life (13 hours.) Info at wiki. Swim's Chimpanzee says it took 15 minutes to get off on Reboxetine the first time, and there was definitely some euphoria; not as strong as D-Amphetamine and qualitatively different. Chimp says that the chemical structure of Reboxetine closely resembles Phenmetrazine (Preludin) and the effect profile is remarkably similar. Chimp says Reboxetine really potentiates a stimulant stack (See post 'Reboxetine: Anti-depressant, creavtivity, and Rocket Fuel Stack' on the anti-depressant board.) Chimp notes that Reboxetine also is an SNRI, and is a good 'loading fuel' to ensure that the body is always wound up to potentiate other stimulants (i.e. daily use) However, for immediate 'therapeutical effect' stop Reboxetine for 3 days and use a higher dosage (within product guidelines) of say, 12~16mg. Chimp strongly believes that Reboxetine has a better 'therapeautical effect' and side effect profile than Strattera. Chimp also believes that Reboxetine is unscheduled/unregulated in US, but of course SWIY should research it themself.

Re: strattera

Swim was on Strattera/atomoxetine for a while, since it's the standard treatment for ADHD on the NHS. Swim has reacted very badly to all other anti-depressants he's been given, and he reacted very badly to Strattera too. It made him really tired, weak, lethargic, completely apathetic and unmotivated, gave him sties in his eyes because they were so dry, made him constipated despite the abundant fruit and veg in his diet and his normally excellent bowl habits and generally made him feel like crap the whole time.

The norepinephrine reuptake inhibition seems to have been particularly harsh on Swim's autonomic functions, while providing no discernable improvement to his ADHD. When Swim was switched to dexamphetamine, he had none of the side-effects of Strattera and had very noticable improvements to his ADHD and various other issues. Swim has also been on Mirtazipine, which increases synaptic levels of norepinephrine and seratonin, and he found that it had similar but much milder side-effects to Strattera, but still didn't do much to help him, although it did get him stoned the first few times he took it.

Re: strattera

swim thinks strattera stinks! He was rx it and took it for 2 and a half weeks total and constipation was RIDICULOUS.

He had to get off it.

Mentally though, the effects were good. His concentration went, the mild antidepressant effects played a good role also.

Re: strattera

SWIM took a 60mg capsule after about 6 strong beers. After 45-50 minutes he felt very much like he was coming up on speed/MDMA. It then got stuck at that stage, a little like it just needed a little help to get over the barrier. He got cold sweats and felt a slight/moderate mood & energy elevation. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being caffeine and 10 being meth, SWIM thinks Atomoxetine is around 3.5. Although SWIM DJs and found that this substance seemed to really help out. He is a pretty experienced DJ but every mix was spot on.

He thinks that a higher dose may have pushed the experience somewhere unpleasant (Heart palputations etc) so wouldn't try a higher dose and didn't feel it was all too recreational at the tried level, but did find it a useful tool to aid concentration.

Swim was on stratera for a few weeks as well. It made him sick to his stomach and throw up on the occasion. He told his doctor and he got prescribed adderall XR. Much, Much better. In all aspects.

Re: strattera

ADD/ADHD is a lack of dopamine so how could a NE reuptake inhibitor ever benefit ADHD beyond placebo? Maybe SWIM is missing something here.

Re: strattera

ADD/ADHD is also linked to low norepinephrine levels.
SWIM just got prescribed Edronax (reboxetine), had his first 2mg dose this afternoon. He is also prescribed methylphenidate 15mg morning, lunch, arvo. SWIM definently noticed its effects, was like he had insufflated 30 mg, but without the toxic feeling. Very clean. He has been able to read almost fluently tonight, which is very considerable for SWIM.

He was actually prescribed it for anxiety, as Lexapro and Pristiq gave him bad erectile dysfunction.

Re: strattera

my friend took strattera for a while and said it worked wonders for him but that it wasn't fun to use recreationally. My friend took it for a few weeks to try and replace adderall and said he hated it, it made him sleepy and anti-social. Since it's not an amphetamine or a stimulant this isn't surprising. Stick with the addy
