Side effects - Does codeine make anyone sleepy?

tonight when swim took about 100mgs of codeine. maybe about 2 hours later he suddenly felt quite sleepy.

anyone else get sleeping with this?

It would seem that this would be a common thing seeing as opiates cause one to be more relaxed. heavy doses of opiates have always made grandma sleepy.

Yes, when opiate users are talking about being "on the nod" that refers to when they are almost passing out and on the borderline between sleep and awake, and they may frequently nod off and briefly awake for a moment again and keep on doing so for a while.

SWIM was nodding quite well last night on only 150mg of codeine along with couple valiums and two glasses of beer. Not a recommended combo though.

indeed codeine is a bit sedating.. but swim can't sleep on it, swim nods off when swim takes 600mg+benzos+booze+methadone but rarely fall asleep

Yeah, it's supposed to but it never makes swim sleepy since the pills he uses contain a lot of caffeine (500mg/30mg/8mg).

Ah, actually the reason SWIM asked this was because after 2 hours of taking codeine once he suddenly got extremely sleepy and didn't know why because it never happens. So it could of been something else... :S

He also uses the pills with 15mgs of caffeine so that's probably why he doesn't usually get tired.

15mg? That's a bless.Swim doesn't have those avaliable in his country so for a low dose like 24 pills (~175mg of codeine) he has to injest ~700mg of caffeine.That's why he's never been able to take higher doses without really severe caffeine intoxication (he really enjoyed 30 pills but when the caffeine kicked in he thought he was gonna die)

Yeah, but the activated charcoal method reduces potency, at least for swim.Good suggestion though...
