What got you into hard drugs?
I figured this was the appropriate place for this type of thread. Also, couldn't find any others like it, but correct me if I'm wrong. I was considering making this a poll, but too many people have their individual experiences.
After knowing how bad they were, after your parents telling you that drugs are bad and all the propoganda fed to you by schools and the government (hey, you couldn't have known it was propoganda until you tried it, right?) you still decided to take "hard drugs". why? For swim, it was really a sort of peer pressure thing. swim is an elitist and thought that he wouldn't get addicted and wouldn't so much as have a bad comedown. What swim didn't know was that chemicals are stronger then any mind set you can have for yourself. swim thought it was okay, and while he can't necisarrily say he regrets that decision, looking back it was a stupid choice the way it was made. Re: What got you into hard drugs?
well its hard to think that far back...lol(its only been 4-6 years ago). well what got swim into the harder drugs was kind of a latter. first came pot and drinking, then swim tried dxm and shrooms and acid. swim always did pain pills but got pretty addicted to them of and on. e had alot of hype back then so he ended up trying that. then he got drunk and did cris. he thinks the main thing was that it was never enough. he kept on wanting more and more and more. nothing was enough. and god the comedowns where horrible, swim remember doing about 7 grams of coke in 40 hours and the comedown sucked. so around that time swim got clean, got saved and lived a life that worth living, at least in his eyes

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Swim's parents discussion of alcohol and drugs consisted of "Don't do it!!"
"Why not? what's wrong with drinking?" swim asked. "Just don't" was the answer for the most part same for pot,... Swim was born in early 50's,....graduated high school early 70's....swim remembers a pattern of "got a cold? go see a doctor, get a prescription,...not to an extreme, or excessive really,...it just seems it was the sign of the times....television was new,...taunting of meds for this and that....commercials about "can't sleep? take this" trouble staying awake or alert? take this, headache? and on and on.......... Around 12 years old, hearing "just dont drink!" swim bein a very inquisitive kid just had to find out at first chance why??......Swim was also quite shy and reserved,..alcohol was a way of becoming someone different, ...Swim has always been the type who's attitude about things was "if a little is good, then a lot is even better......." very much an extremist in all swim did, doing or will do....an attitude of having to experience everything ..a will try anything at least once. pot at 13-14,...then at 15 swim's first experience with speed.....the next 35 years were a wild out of control, fast ride.....3 years since last touch of meth,....there was a slip at day 366 of recovery.....so for the most part 4 years clean. Swim does not tell kids to just "don't do it" Swim explains it,...owns up to being unable to not use.... |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Simply put, depression and insomnia. Tried every anti-depressant and some creative usage of other powerful drugs (ritalin, adderal, anti-psychotics, etc.); doctors couldn't help. SWIM found illegal drugs and they work a lot better (one in particular works perfect).

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
The same boredom that "made" swim drink for the first time (drunken nirvana jam at age 15... great memory), and smoke pot halloween shortly after (not as good of a memory), was the driving force that saw swim to cocaine.... only 3 or 4 months after his first drink. Anyway, swim never really made a distinction of hard or soft drugs, and he and most of his drug using friends are "down to try anything." That being said, even cocaine is (was...) hard to get in his area, and anything "harder" than that... forget about it.

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
SWIM and his friend both decided that a rave sounded fun and taking e's at a rave sounded even funner. Although hes ashamed to admit it, he took his first e without haveing done much research and only did what friends told him he should do, really stupid things like 'dont drink alot of water'...

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Quote:
In swims younger years people died because of dehydration (lots of clubs/rave's disconnected the water taps) And charged lots for a drink. Then there was a campaign: if you take XTC drink lots of water ! People did and the clubs/rave's left the water taps open in the toilets (they didn't want people to die in there place) And people were drinking to much water !! And were drowning them selfs. Think over hydration water will come in the lungs, but not exactly sure how it works. So drink enough water the more someone dances the more the sweat and the more they need to drink, don't dance/sweat still drink ! But not as much as someone who is dancing. |

Little fishys reason for trying drugs is quite simple... curiosity. After trying a couple he see the potential for using them to self-medicate or for introspection, to give himself insight into himself and understand himself better as well as have fun. |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Complete boredom. Boredom and depression. The two go hand in hand and SWIM would have to say that these two factors weighed heavily towards SWIM dabbling in hard drugs. Of course, it all comes down to a personal decision and all the blame lies with SWIM and SWIM alone. He has to take credit for something, right?
Could SWIM have sought out advice on his depression and mood swings? Absolutely. Could SWIM have engaged himself in more productive activities in society and in college to alleviate his boredom? Most definitely. Should SWIM have been more responsible in educating himself with the effects of hard drugs and their dangers? Damn right. SWIM practiced escapism. He felt more "in control" of the situation when he was high. When in reality, he was ignoring his responsibilities as his world collapsed like a house of cards. Anyhow, SWIM feels he has learned his lesson. He has learned that too much of a good thing is bad but sometimes a little bit of a bad thing is good. SWIM can never stress enough the importance of moderation. -Pope Albacore Last edited by Pope Albacore; 13-01-2009 at 13:43. |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Pope Albacore,
I admire the honesty of that post! Telling it how it is... You can almost certainly guarantee that many other users have the same reason(s) as SWIY but will not admit or accept the consequences of their actions are anyone's fault but their own. KomodoMK
Agreed! One of mankind's many faults(if not one of their biggest) is the inability to accept responsibility for their own bullshit. It seems they can whine ALL day long and point fingers but they can never swallow their pride and take one on the chin. Everyone is out to get them. Boo fucking hoo. -Pope Albacore Last edited by Dickon; 18-06-2009 at 11:50. Reason: just say no - to quoting superflously |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Swims mum always told swim that heroine made you crazy.. Then when dad got released from prison and told his son he uses heroine swim seen him smoking it and got curius... Mum lied !
Mum and dad divorced when swim was 2 years old, and only met his real dad when he was 13. Visited him in prison a few times and remembers him from when swim was very young and he took his son out. |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
SWIM was self-medicating, having prescriptions, and wanting to have some fun...
never really got propaganda shoved in the face since SWIM wasn't noticed much in school till he started using cannabis helped so much, and then benzo's + opis made the problems not only disappear, but he felt great....of course all that changed eventually though. |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
damm Sex pistols... Disruptive childhood, never feeling content, rebellion and several years of intense amphetamine, alcohol, psychedelics and cannabis use starting at 14, phychosis kicked in and discovering opiates at 21 was indeed a fatal remedy.

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
For swim it was a mix of things really. The main thing however was depression. After swim had tried speaking to A LOT of different professionals and had been put on a lot of different anti-depressents from the doctor and none of that had helped swim she was just looking for some kind of escape, anything to make her feel happy again even if it was only temparary.
Swim also thinks a part of it was looking for something new. Swim had also been taking lots of other drugs before she moved onto the harder ones (this again swim would say was because of her depression) and swim had just pretty much got bored of the ones she was taking and they just weren't doing it for her anymore, so she moved on.. |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
By 'hard' drugs, we mean class A drugs? Or heroin and crack?
For swim, in both cases it just sorta seemed a natural continuation of the path swim was taking of re-evaluating the world. Swim was about 16 when he first took class a - acid and speed. He had been brought up by born again Christians, and been to a private school. . . had been taught that praising God was more important than being nice to people, and drugs - where they were mentioned at all - were a sign of society's depravity. . . drug users were either pitiful victims in desperate need of salvation through Christ, or sinister, lurking lepers, seeking to drag one down to their grasping, bestial level. . . drugs gave an obscene pleasure, equated with sex, and therefore could only be evil and depraved. . . As soon as swim was old enough to think for himself (around puberty), he started to realise the poo-stew he was being spoon-fed. . . it was a few years before he was presented with anh opportunity to have his firts joint, but it was a revelatory experience. . . after having smoked it, he was not overcome with the depraved urge to bugger animals, nor was he prostituting himself for another fix of waccy-baccy. . . he realised that if he'd been lied to about joints, the rest of what he'd been told was probably also false. . . it was a fairly natural progression, from there. . . his first ecstasy experience, about 15 years ago, was imbued with more religious feeling than anything the church had ever offered, and swim kicked off and plunged head-first down the slippery slope. Now, swim has a heroin and a crack habit. . . still, he's dealing with it, and at least he;s not walking through life with his head up his arse. |

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Pretty much just lost site of everything once swim tried coke and then kind of just started doing anything swim could get his hands on, now swim is addicted to heroin so swim would have to say he got caught up in the moment. If that makes sense.

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
Soft drugs are expensive, and harder ones give more bang for your buck. Plus the whole new experience thing, and eventually, the mild drugs just don't cut it.

Re: What got you into hard drugs?
my friend is kinda with komodo here
Quote:
so he knew he had to smoke some dank, ASAP. then once that happened, he was like ..shit that was amazing.. WHAT ELSE IS THERE? then he tried ecstasy, (which apparently is a big deal to alot of younger cats) after e, he was like, damn that was SICK whats next? then he tried mushrooms, and he didn't really like them his first time but was like, fuck it, hundreds and thousands of people can't be wrong, right? and then did them again, and loved them then he just decided to pop some pills, do some coke and it was nice. no regrets SO IN SUMMARY it was merely the fact that millions of people around him loved them, or got addicted because they felt they couldn't live without them, or that people hated them without a legit reason. so my friend was like... i need to get some and see what the hype is about. |
