The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure - A Holistic Approach To Total Recovery
Millions of people suffer through the effects of alcohol and drug abuse. This book is the product of the author's journey through the addictions of his son.
Two caveats are appropriate here. Some may see this book as a giant advertisement for the Passages Treatment Center. This book also conflicts with the conventional wisdom of Alcoholics Anonymous as the only way to treat alcoholism and other addictions.
Having said that, this book is a refreshing look into holistic healing. It identifies one physical and three emotional causes or underlying conditions that lead to self abuse. It also employs a three step approach that is tailor made to an individual and rejects the "one size fits all" methodology as applied by 12 step programs.
Most importantly, this book seeks to treat the underlying causes rather than the symptoms of alcoholism and addiction. It is written in an uplifting, positive, and punishment free tone.
I have read A.A.'s "Big Book" and other corollary works such as the NA literature, I do not see "The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure" as mutually exclusive. One methodology seeks to stop addiction through peer support and spirituality, the other seeks to stop addiction by identifying the internal and underlying causes and thus the need for self punishing behavior.
Rather than pit one philosophy against the other, it may be that the two philosophies are mutually beneficial.
The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure is an excellent read and makes sense. It requires a "hard stare" from those that have tried other approaches that did not work.
