Kidney donor and pain pills
Hey everyone i have a quesiton.
If a person is a kidney donor and only has one kidney at the moment but takes oxycodone/hydrocodone occaisionally is it safe? For instance i am talking about maybe 3 times a month for recreational use and no more than 20mg at a time. Since you get these when you are recovering from surgury ie..kidney donation i assume they cannot be that bad for you? From what i have read the apap is the bad thing, but 1) if you do cold water extraction then what are the long term harms of doing this for recreation every now and then and 2) even if one didnt do cold water extraction wouldnt it not be that bad anyways because of the infrequencY? Really what i want to know is it just as bad on your kidney/liver as drinking alcohol occasionally or is there a long term effect i should know about. ps.....I have already read the threads on addiction and the person i am asking about has been doing this for 12 months already and have never increased frequency or dose so i am not worried abou this. |

Re: Kidney donor and pain pills
SWIM would assume the largest risk is from the APAP. If SWIY's tablets contain this (acetominophon/paracetamol/apap) SWIM would suggest a cold water extraction prior to injestion. There are many articles on this if SWIY is unaware of the process.

Re: Kidney donor and pain pills
Welcome to the forum.
As soma said, APAP would be the biggest risk. If a person had only one kidney and he would like to do oxycodone, it would be wise for him to extract APAP away. That way he should be fine. I would bet my head on the fact that APAP is contraindicated for people with only one kidney, the people making the lists of contraindications don't tend to take unnecessary risks. |

Re: Kidney donor and pain pills
So if one does the CW extraction, everytime and has about 15-20mg of the hydrocodone once a week every week, is there a long term issue with that? or is the 6 says off each week enough to not cause any issues?

Re: Kidney donor and pain pills
The biggest issue with opiates is usually addiction. Other than that, opiates aren't very toxic so I don't think so. The main side effects are constipation and itching, as someone using opiates would surely know. For more information, the archive is full of articles about health effects of opiates. It's the tab in the upper part of the site that says 'documents'.
