Experiences - Vyvanse prescription; Any advice?

So after being on strattera for a year, and realizing how much swim hated it cuz it wasn't working, swim is finally starting an amphetamine (Vyvanse) for ADD. School starts back up in a month and swim is super excited at the chance to actually be able to concentrate for once!! Knowing what weird effects new medications can have when swiy is new to them, does anyone have any advice from swiy's experiences on taking this new prescription (i.e. best time during the day to take it, which dose amounts work best, things to avoid while on it, etc)? Anything helps! ....And btw, does swiy think being prescribed 60mg was a bit much to start out with? Swim doesn't remember the adderall dose equivalency to vyvanse.

It's adderall with a lysine molecule attached, so it isn't active till it passes through the small intestine or liver. Don't bother snorting it, won't do a damn bit of good.

It's got a much smaller peak concentration then adderall, and it looks like a lower bio-availibility, read that 30mg is equal to around 10mg adderall (which pisses nobody off as they just changed scripts)

Considering the cost, you might be better getting adderall.

As for everything else, these are things your doctor should have told you.

The reason the Vyvanse is not equivalent to Adderall dosages is because Vyvanse is lisdexamfetamine dimesylate and that means it is d-amphetamine molecule with lysene molecule attached to it.
An enzyme in the intestines slowly cleaves off the lysene and then the d-amphetamine can be slowly absorbed into the blood.

So the amount of milligrams is twice as high for Vyvanse (60mg Vyvanse is 30mg Lysene + 30mg d-amphetamine) than it is for Adderall.

60mg Vyvanse is comparable to 30mg Adderall.
30mg Vyvanse is comparable to 15mg Adderall.

Vyvanse is not Adderall with lysene.
Adderall has 4 different types of amphetamine salts in it. Yes, one of the types of amphetamine in Adderall is d-amphetamine which is thought to be the reason Adderall is effective for ADHD.
Vyvanse has only one type, d-amphetamine(dextroamphetamine).

Vyvanse is considered less abusable because it must be metabolized in the small intestine/liver before becoming active d-amphetamine.
Also the body cannot break down the Lysene all at once which gives Vyvanse it's extended release effect.

Vyvanse is pretty cool, SWIM likes it and is only on 30mg at the moment (was on 50mg but was not able to sleep so pdoc decreased dosage to 30mg).
Both Adderall XR and Vyvanse last up to 12+ hours

Yeah, Swim read up on all the chemistry of it, but heard different dose equivalencies from different sources which lead to some confusion. People just respond differently to it even after following doc's orders. So swim figured it'd be best to get suggestions from different people for best results. To e4rolls, does swiy find it really does it's job with the ADHD? Sorry to hear about the sleep issues. Swim sure hopes she can get a good night's sleep while still taking advantage of the full effects.

Actually for SWIM, Vyvanse does help him with symptom coverage for ADHD-(combined). Adderall XR helped SWIM also, both meds were very good but SWIM like the "smooth" effects of Vyvanse better than the "speedy" effects of the Adderall. SWIM has a history of abuseing amphetamine meds (not proud of this weakness, sorry..) so the less "euphoric" Vyvanse, is the better med in SWIM's case because it does not tease SWIM with an initial short-lived "rush" like Adderall does.

SWIM has good symptom control for 8-12 hours with Vyvanse as long as SWIM gets a good night sleep and remembers to eat during the day and stay well hydrated as well as taking a good mutivitamin and Omega-3(fish oil) supplement.

SWIM liked the 50mg Vyvanse better than his current 30mg dose because it lasted 12-14 hours as compared to 8-12 currently.

Shire pharma. indicates that a higher initial dose of Vyvanse extends the duration of effect. SWIM finds this to be accurate in his case but as we all know, this could be a placebo effect for SWIM. lol

SWIM is getting no better sleep at 30mg than he did at 50mg so SWIM's pdoc does'nt seem to know what the fuck she is talking about. Wow, big suprise there right?

SWIM has tried abusing the Vyvanse and could not get very high off it because apparently the small intestine and liver cannot break down the lysene-d-amfetamine molecules fast enough to get more than 100mg d-amphetamine into the blood-stream per hour!

Oh well, SWIM tried and failed so SWIM has learned that he should take no more than the prescribed dose so he will have enough pills to get through the entire month. SWIM hates going unmedicated for a week or so until his next sript is written/filled.
