Codeine and Kidneys

I apologise if this query should have gone in an existing thread, I couldn’t find one I deemed suitable.
SWIM was wondering if Codeine is particularly harmful to their kidneys. This interests them as they only have one and would like to take care of it. Their lifestyle is exactly the same as someone with both kidneys and they haven’t received any medical advice to treat their body differently to someone with two kidneys.
They have done a trial run with 64mg Codeine which was CWE’d from 8mg Codeine 500mg Paracetamol to check for allergies etc and felt mildly content. They thought it might be a good idea to ask before increasing the dose.

Re: Codine and kidneys

Swim is by no means an expert, but HAS been taking Codeine via a legit prescription from a "pain mgmt.doctor" for his back pain for the last 2 years. He tries to research everything that he puts in his body. After reading everything he can about Codeine, it is his opinion that with the possible exception of Urinary retention, the Codeine by itself is safe. The problems occur because of the APAP, Caffine and anything else that is in the pill, capsule, or cough medicine WITH the Codeine.
Swim hopes Swiy does their own research on this Forum and elsewhere online to re-assure themselves that what Swim says is true.
Swim hopes this helps.

Re: Codine and kidneys

Agreed! Codeine by itself is not that which ruins your liver/kidney(s), its rest of the bullshit Drug Manufacturers put in there (Apap, Asprin, Etc.) that will botch your insides. SWIM is v. lucky, having used and abused opiods for too many years, his body still forgave him and is still somewhat functioning!

Re: Codine and kidneys

Thanks for your responses.

SWIM's research didn't find any evidence that codeine was particularly harmful for your kidneys and that most harm was associated with liver damage from the associated substances. SWIM has come to the conclusion that the risks are the same as they are for anyone else though he will stick to purchasing simple combinations and CWEing them.
