My cat has social anxiety
My cat gets nervous when he's around strange people especially female cats. He wants to be more open and talk to them but he gets nervous and anxious. I was wondering if there's anything safe that my cat can get that makes him more open. Anything that is legal, safe,OTC and not alcoholic. It's better if there is some kind of pills/capsules so he can take it easily. He tried phenibut xt capsules but it's not doing him any good.
Any suggestions ? |

Re: My cat has social anxiety
It may not be what you want to hear, but honestly, I would just try to take the problem head on and more or less, practice talking to people.
If you rely on a pill, a patch, syrup, whatever, then you are practically setting yourself up for awkward encounters when you don't have your emergency courage pill. Especially around girls, you can't just take an over the counter medicine and expect to be a smooth talking ladies man. You gain confidence over time and through experience. A girl wants somebody with a back bone... There is no reason to be nervous and anxious... If you are stumbling over your words, but smiling and being funny, she'll more than likely just think you are cute and 'stunned by her beauty' or some shit.. If you take some pill and approach with the attitude that you are going to have amazing in-depth conversations for hours on end, You're probably going to be disappointed with the results. If you are clearly nervous, and the girl is being a bitch, then who cares? who wants to be a with a bitch? Just ask her questions about herself and always be interested in what she has to say. It will take you a lot further than medicine ever will |

Re: My cat has social anxiety
Tell your cat to just start licking his balls. It works for my dog!
But being serious here: SwiyJunket is right. Swiy's cat doesn't want to start depending on a substance for courage, then he'll need it and when he doesn't have it his discomfort will probably increase. It's hard when one is shy, swim knows this. Swiy would be surprised at how in tune females cats can be to nervousness. But remember --Kitties get nervous, too! Sometimes it might be best just to say it out loud, something like " I'm a bit nervous here because I'm a little shy, but I'd love to talk." Swim knows it's sounds cheesy, but kitties can be pretty "forgiving" about that stuff. Swim has always found it a little endearing and much more attractive than arrogant confidence. One can be shy and still be a knock-your-socks-off kind of guy. And swiyJunket is right about practicing. As hard as it is, once the cat takes that first step it gets easier. |

Re: My cat has social anxiety
Yeah. Youve got to find your own confidence. Just believe in yourself. Try not to listen to your mind because thats were a large portion if not all of self consciousness comes from which leads to extreme ackwardness and anti social behavior.
Remember that comunication is not a thought process. Just shut off your brain, open your heart, and let your senses guide you while trusting yourself all the way and have fun. Remember to not try to do anything. If you really try to impress a girl or get her attention you will most likely come off as a jackass. Swim knows. Just relax, keep a blank head, dont have any expectations, and just go in as you, express yourself and also listen. If you do this right, you may or may not start to feel a very nice vibe begining to form. Trust that vibe and just go with the flow. If no vibe forms and it is subconsciously obvious by the signals she is sending that she is not at all interested than just walk away. Its not the end of the world and you dont want to try and force a connection on someone. There are plenty more fish in the sea. What it comes down to is that finding a mate or a friend is instinctual. You dont want to think about it or try to strategicaly play it. Alls you gots to do is flow with the motion of the ocean. Once you find out what Im even talking about you will begin to feel things around you that will begin to strengthen and become more noticeable. Youll beable to know when someone likes you or is interested in you and you will know that you want to talk to this person just by glancing at them. Tust the vibes grass hopper. Use the force. |

. lol To the serious part, thank you guys for your responses. I always felt like there is a way to do it without drugs. Each time I go out, I just feel confident at the morning but when I come back at night I feel like shit. I don't know why I lose my confidence over time. Sometimes I successfully talk with strangers and feel happy but most of the times I fail. Talking to girls is only part of the problem, many people have approach anxiety, but my problem is talking to any stranger, so imagine how would I be with girls I like. I'll try to practice on strangers that I don't have attraction to, it should be easier. Thanks for your responses,it's comforting, I'll think about what you said when I go out next time. |

Re: My cat has social anxiety
This cat sounds like it already has a plan, but to add, does the cat know whether or not it's the rats causing the social anxiety? one may think it's all people, but really there is a main source in cats anxiousness somewhere. If cat confronts the the rats he really likes right now that might solve some main anxiety. Instead of waiting and leaving that time gap open for other issues to come in or get worse, or taking substances to get by with anxiety. Taking care of the issue ASAP and not slowly working ones way to it is most likely better for the situation. Step by step is a process and a certain type of method that stalls many people, especially anxious people. When one wants something one just has to go and get it. Cat has to face it sooner or later, and guess what? no matter how many strangers cat approaches right now, it's still going to be the same challenge in the end with the rats cat likes the most. Though, It's when you feel ready enough to do it cat, johnnyd understands that part, but waiting is not exactly going to make anything better.

Re: My cat has social anxiety
A placebo effect from an otherwise useless pill might work.

Re: My cat has social anxiety
I agree with the comments above, but here's a few tips for your weenie cat:
1) Valerian reduces stress and anxiety in some people. Available almost anywhere OTC. 2) Hops can do the same on a lower scale. Also available almost anywhere OTC. 3) Tell your cat to stop giving a damn what people think. If they judge him unfairly they are a waste of his time. Tell him to find someone who can appreciate and understand his silly awkwardness. He has to either change the problem himself or make it work for him. Hope this helps.

Go out with a conversation starter -- not a pickup line, but something about yourself which you can share and perhaps get some exciting response. Music is a good one, if you are a musician. Maybe you like snakes? I don't know. Something you're proud of that will build your confidence. |
