Re: SWIMs admitting he is an addict and does not know where to turn ! please help !
You say you don't know where to start, but look at your post. You already have started. The first step and perhaps the biggest is WANTING to quit.
If there was a background explaining what got you to this point, it would help a lot more to actually address the situation. What I will say is to read around these forums and check out some of the other threads such as: http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58762 There is alot of helpful information on here and you should definitely utilize it. For starters on HOW to stop, it would be: Erasing your dealers number. Not answering his calls. Stop hanging with other user friends. Tell yourself you can and will do it. As I've said you have already got in the car, and thats the biggest step in driving to sobriety. When you feel all depressed and guilty coming down, that's when you write down some thoughts. Make a journal, draw a picture. Write exactly what you are feeling and ask yourself "What the fuck is the point in doing this?" Next time you have an urge to use, look at that paper and just understand that right when that eightball is over with, you are guaraunteed to be that low again. Do you really want that? No. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress Today is day 1. Junket out Last edited by Dickon; 02-08-2009 at 11:02. Reason: quote and unnecessary SWIM criticism |

hey man--i assume you're asking about cocaine addiction.
Might I ask how it is taken? Snorted? Smoke crack? freebase?? if it's snorting then you'll likely be able to quit on your own free-will but some people do not---because they cannot stop. more than likely however, you just need to tune your mind into the powers of suggestion and the subtle desire to survive. Tell yourself that cocaine is going to kill you one day. spend some time just reflecting on an image of lines on a table or going into a bathroom to snort some off a key or a movie in your head of you going to the ATM after midnight and taking out $60 or however-much a gram or an eight-ball would normally costyou. then think about how that IF YOU GO THRU WITH IT--i.e. IF you actually allow yourself to fall into any of these high-pressure situations, then you must CONVINCE yourself that cocaine = DEATH (for you!). that's right. if you REALLY want to beat this thing, you can't be 1/2 ass about what you tell yourself. if you have a divided mind on this subject (btw, we all do! that's normal!), if you are afraid or have some reservatio0ns about actually going thru wit htheis---and don't want to believe that cocoaine use = early, premature death for yoiu, then you're not anywhere NEAR being ready to quit. in fact, i doubt there's anything else in the WORLD that makes a young 20-something-year-old (or late teen) MORE MOTIVATED to wanting to put a drug behind them than coming down after a late-night sessino with cocaine. let us know what happens. -DICK |

As junket said i would defiinitley advise changing your social group. Staying clean around drug users is near impossible in my experiance!

Swim has had the same problem he has been using for about 1 year 6 months. he was spending £500 a month every month he has been clean for a couple weeks now and swim no longer feels depressed. Swim will be doing cocaine again but only a couple times a year.

SWIM once came down from a two-week binge of painkillers, xanax, alcohol and marijuana, and quit cold turkey, everything. Barely slept or ate for 4 days, SWIY isn't alone. A good thing to try is reconnecting with old (clean!) friends and family. Find a support base, whatever it is and keep your eye on the prize.

cocaine: the addiction is in your head, you must be more proactive without it in your system, you must go out of your way to have a great time. in short, be happy. it is not your body demanding the substance but some part of (the conceptualized) you. as you talk about the lack of its use causing emotional disturbances Im guessing it is not the intellectualized need to escape reality based in the pre frontal cortex, but an emotional draw based somewhere lower in the brain. you could ask a doctor about a dopamine reuptake inhibitor to help with these withdrawl problems.
