Combinations - Codeine and Alcohol

Hey...my dog was wondering how long after taking Codeine he would be able to drink alcohol. He knows taking them both at the same time would be a bad idea, but what if he was to take 120mg of Codeine and then hit up the bar 5-6 hours later?

My Dalek is by no means a chemist but he would assume. Codeine with a half life of "2.5–3 hours" (wiki codeine page) any time after that is safe.

Although my dalek thought it had a longer half life than that. Any one else care to comment?

as long as you're still not high on codeine, you should be alright. Just don't fall asleep until a good couple hours after comming off codeine.

I confirm, 5-6hrs. after is safe. But SWIY should rehydrate in between, as (even mild) opiate withdrawal can cause dehydration.

Swim drank 2 beers w/ 45mg tamazepam (30mg & 2 hrs l8r 15mg) & 200mg tramadol (synthetic codeine analogue) & was fine, but drinking heavily while on opiates or other downers isn't safe.

SWIY should b fine, just do a lower dose of codeine when drinking alcohol & limit alcohol usage 2 a minimum & there will b no problems.

& don't drink on a codeine & acetaminophen/paracetamol combo cuz it's real bad 4 the liver.

If swiy was doing CWE SWIY should be more worried about trace apap than codeine. APAP and alcohol is war on liver.

With such a low dose of codeine, even low doses of alcohol taken toghether (a beer or two) should be fine.Swim's codeine high usually burns out after 2-3 hours so 5-6 hours later sounds fine.

well codiene is one of the weakest opiate there is with a ceiling effect around 400-450 mg (meaning the more one takes it wont have any eurphoric/pain killing effects. but higher doses still depress breathing and still causes additional histamine releases, which sucks), if swiys opiate naive swiy would be wise to not drink on it, however if a person has a tolerance there body should be able to handle alcohol on top of it (assuming the codeine doent have acetaminophen or NSAIDS combined w/ it as these can cause liver damage.

about 400mg of codiene is equivalant to 40mg of hydrocodone, which is like a baby dose asprin for an established addict but an opiate naieve person would be jammed (possibly od if sensitive to, and opiate free), so what swims trying to say is becareful and it mostly depends on ones tolerance, and of course even an opiate tolerant person shouldnt drink till they are shit-faced or on the verge of blacking/passing out (that could very well turn lethal), but a few beers or a sot or 2 shouldnt cause respertory depression in a opiate addict with a large tolerance.
