I was recently searching the internet for books that surround my interests. Although not a user, I'm very interested in drugs in general, psychedelic theories, off the wall concepts, along with detailed & captivating journalism. This book covered many qualities of an all around winner.
It starts off with an introduction to cocaine from Sigmund Freud. He enthusiastically explains the history, its evolution (for lack of better word), its effects on animals and its effects on humans. He also breifly explains the reign of Pablo Escobar. My friend, Swimson, loves cocaine and he said this intro alone got him riled up and ready to hang out with the white devil; but instead, I took the book away from him and continued reading.
The book then starts to tell stories from various authors. Some are in third person, some are just overviews and some are first person experiences. Its
very interesting to read about the different effects and different situations that each author lives. You view numerous styles of writing that really draw you in. Well, it did for me anyways.
M. Ageyev writes "The shell my cocaine bliss presented to the world eventually began to crumble. I was possessed by the strangest of manias within an hour of the first sniff."
This is one of the first entries in the book. It is extremely intriguing to read about the use of this drug from so many different eyes... or noses, I should say. It covers views of the substance from ghettos to mansions.
With all due respect, a couple of the authors in the book are kind of dull and they aren't as exciting to read. A couple of the authors tell
amazing stories and I hoped they would never end. Aleister Crowley being one of them. He explains a night in paris where he sniffs coke and heroin with this lady and its a truly impeccable read.
Without giving away too many of the stories, I would just like to recommend this book to everybody out there who likes a good read, and ESPECIALLY those who love a good line of blow. (nobody on here of course).
I give this book a 5/5
