Propranolol
Swim has been trying to get some valium from his doctor but all he has got is propranolol... does anyone know if propranolol has any potential to be used recreationally or if it shouldn't be mixed with any other kinds of drugs?
cheers |

Re: Propranolol
Propranolol is a non-selective beta blocker. Beta blockers, including propranolol, have an additive effect with other drugs which decrease blood pressure, or which decrease cardiac contractility or conductivity.
Swim reckons the dose for reducing anxiety to be 10–40 mg. Swim doesn't have personal experience so its probably good to have a second opinion of someone who does. |

Re: Propranolol
No recreational value whatsoever. Is a kickass anxiolytic however, with no sedation or other unnecessary/pleasant side-effects.

Re: Propranolol
SWIM also had this prescribed when trying to obtain diazepam from the doctor. It helps when SWIM used to sweat for no reason apart from that sometimes her fingers used to freeze white like they were dead. Also my counsellor told me he had a black out when exercising but that's prob just cause he's an old unfit bastard!
SWIM dosn't take them anymore as she tried to deal with her anxiety by taking herbal remedies and camomile tea. SWIM had also been quitting dope (hash) at around a similar time so she did really need something for anxiety, but the doctors especially here in the NE of Scotland are so reluctant to prescribe diazepam. Why oh why. They would never give SWIY ENOUGH ANYWAY AS WELL AS DENING WHAT WE NEED also they under prescribe. but that's for another day

Re: Propranolol
What we need should never be mistaken for what we want. Propanolol is an effective anxiolytic with none of the dependency/abuse issues surrounding diazepam & other benzodiazepines, & as such it is an excellent choice. GP's have to balance the patients need with the chances of addiction & abuse. Demanding diazepam from a GP is going to ring alarm bells, & will increase the likelihood of not getting it.

Re: Propranolol
SWIM would never demand anything off a doctor. She knows well what doctors will prescribe if SWIY has ceertain symptoms - as SWIM actually had the symptoms off the problem. Panic Attacks, nervousness while standing in Q's - won't bore SWIY anymore.
If people are going to abuse drugs are perhaps known drug users to the doc then they are going to try stuffing vast quantities of these things down their neck. Not good. Also SWIM has found diazepam to be the most effective answer to her aliments and has uses on and off for 8 years now without addiction |
