yes, fear AND loathing in las vegas is a great movie.

if you like it, you should check out hte other movie made in the 80's
that was adapted from the same book by hunter s thompson.... it was
entitled "where the buffalo roam". Druggie supreme Raoul Duke
(the actual name used by Mr. Thompson when he did this) was played by
Bill Murray....it is entertaining to say the least.

Also, goread the book! Hunter S. Thompson was a brilliant man,
and an amazing writer. In addition to Fear and Loathing in Las vegas, all of his other books were great, also look at
the rum diaries, and if you're politically inclined read "Fear and
Loathing on the Campain Trail"

PS - aldrenochrome does NOT exist....if you want, I will dig up
the link that I read about it on and send it to you. Long story
short, this substance doesn't exist, but some substances
(vaguely) will achieve the same results..

Read the book, it is a short story that you wont be able to put down, its much better than the movie and you will be laughing your ass off for a week. Just think, its based on real life experiences.

adrinachrome does exist actually. but not in the way the movie says it does. the complete story is on erowid.com. but to sumarize, synthetic adrenalinewas used as a stimulantby field medics in the war, and as some of the stocks got old, they fermented and turned pinkish. when the new stocks ran out, themedics had to use the fermented adrenaline. the patients that recieved this reported hallucinating from it. i do't know that synthetic adrenaline is still used, but ifit is, all you need to do is find some (which should be impossible) andlet it age.

Ya i thought the movie was great and depp did a cool job. The book is a must read. I really like the part in the movie when he is wacked on acid and checks into the hotel. Man ive never seen an acid experience portrayed so well in a movie before

Just a funny thing that was in the book but not in the movie that i thought i would share... you might not find it funny:

At the scene where they are at the bar and Raul Duke is seeing the
lizards all around him, he says to his attourney something like "My
god, look at that bunch over there, they've spotted us.." and then his
attourney says "You think thats fucked up? You didnt see what just
happened in the elevator". his attourney took off his glasses and Raul
had noticed that he had been crying....

Might just be me who finds that funny, but what could he possibly see that would make him cry!? Lol, its an open ended joke.

Just thought I'd share,

Peace

Having an already chaotic mind, it was just a tad too over the edge for me. Felt like "I" was the one on drugs, not watching others on them, lol.</font>

Now I know 90% of you have seen this movie but how mnay have heard the dialogue CD its quite interesting, but tthats not the point. the point is the differences like the bakc door beauty scene isnt on the CD its a different restraunt with nice ppl and the pair looking for the American dream. Just thought id let you all know about it its nice in the car or at work when you dont have a tv

The back door beauty bit may not be on your CD dialogue but thechapter when they are in a restraunt talking to nicepeople is a different part of the story. Back door beauty was at a diner out in North Vegas and the bit of the story with the nice people is the nextrestraunt on the Northeast outskirts of Vegas,Terry's Taco Stand. Boulder City was where they hoped to find The American Dreamso they asked the waitress and the cheff at Terry's and theydirected them tothe old Psychiatrist's Club.

I recommend reading the book, it's short and better than the movie imo. There are somegood parts that didn't make it into the movie, like when the drifter talks about being arrested and there are acid dealers there with an obscene amount of cash.

try amazon or soemtihng. just google it. its a quick read though and
you could just buy it at a local book store. i enjoyed the book quite a
lot but i wish i had read it before i saw the movie. much of the
dialogue is exactly the same as in the movie so i found myself thinking
"haha i remember that scene" while reading the book instead of "haha i
remember that chapter" while watching the movie. if you havent seen the
movie yet i would reccomend reading the book first.

The CD is people reading the book it has some famous ppl like hank azaria and joan cusak, i got it at HMV in canada ita hyas a holographic cover if thats any help but its prettuy interesting, and there are parts near the ne dwhen a voicwe comes on and says the tapes we were using are so wrecked we can only piece together what happned here which is kinda funny.
In the book does the cop ask for a kiss? because i thought that part didnt really happen and i didnt like it

he doesnt. thats another bad thing about the movie they kind of
exagerate things and add stuff thats not in the book. when hunter s
thompson wrote the book he took a recorder with him to record what
happened and one chapter starts with an editors note that says they
couldnt understand what was happening so they jsut had an exact
transcript of the recording or sometihng. is there a tape of the actual
recordings he used? cuz id like to hear that.

Why not? Share some insights or secrets other people might not know about the movie or book, like...

-Johnny Depp had his head shaved by Hunter for his part.

-In the first sequence, the drifter wears a t-shirt with ads for the book

I think it is one of the most faithful movie adaptions I've ever
seen. I mean, yeah, there are parts missing or exxaggerated, but
reading the book and watching the movie is so identical at times.

"Do you guys wanna buy heroin?!?!? Whaaaaaaa, you guys want some heroin?!?!?"

"Shut up! Shut up!"

The tshirt was one with ralph steadmans sketch not an add for the book, though it was the same artist.
Jonny Depp lived in HST's basement for a month before shooting to get a feel for him
In real life Dr Gonzo ( Oscar Zeta Jones) one day got on a raft and just sailed away and hasnt been seen since

I do appreciate Hunter Thompson's descriptions of mescaline. Its such a hard experience to describe but many things he says I can relate to quite well.

do you think thompson ever dropped acid with johnny depp? he portrayed
tripping pretty well in the movie, but maybe hes just a good actor. for
all his hollywood pretty boy qualities hes been in some good movies
(fear and loathing, blow). i want to go see willy wonka on mushrooms,
although im not sure whether it can beat the old one.
