Good to hear from you Dawnies, have often wondered how your friend was doing, am glad to hear you have got some help and are moving forward. It will be worth it, hang in there and enjoy the counselling and psychology, X has found this kind of thing really helps.

Re: Some advice please on codeine quitting

Thanks so much for your reply betsym!

Swim thinks she would prefer the tapering method if this helps avoid the nasty withdrawals (does it?) .....just have to get the courage up to actually start this!!
Swim has ordered some Kava Kava and some Vitamin B tabs as she read in another thread that these can help with the recovery....once she has received these she doesnt really have anymore excuses to put off getting on the road to recovery....

Swim wishes so much that she never ever was prescribed codeine!!

Re: Some advice please on codeine quitting

The only advice my friend might add is to tell your loved ones about your problem.Dave tried to quit a number of times on the down low,and found that (for him) it was impossible. The support of your loved ones will provide you with the strength/determination to break through.

Good luck and happy new year to you and yours

Re: Some advice please on codeine quitting

SWIY (((hugs)))) <--- cyber hugs for you

SWIM is in the EXACT same position right now... You can read SWIMS thread "Hi all..SWIMS codeine addiction" to get a better idea if SWIY wants.

SWIM has a pain condition and SWIM is taking large doses of codeine too and trying to taper down, so SWIM knows how you feel darling.

If SWIy wants to talk or vent or rant or anything or just wants to share the tapering process and such, SWIy can PM anytime. SWIM is new to this recovery thing too but will try to help as much as possible.

SWIM thinks it IS possible, and again look at some of the great stories here of hardship and recovery.. SWIM and SWIY are mommies and we can do this!

Re: Some advice please on codeine quitting

Well Swim managed to stick to her 3 doses today......with the help of some kratom.....swim took roughly 5mgs in capsules and though it didnt give her any "euphoric" feeling, it certainly staved off the longing to take them and thats just what swim needs at the moment!!

Betsym, Swim has been searching on the Forum for codiene potentiators but there seems to be quite abit of conflict on the subject...it seems that potentiators work for opiates such as oxys or even tramadol but not necessarily for codeine....swim has tried anti acids and grapefruit juice but neither seemed to have any potentiating effect...

Swim is just happy that she was able to stick to the 3 doses today as this morning swim definately didnt think she could have done it! Mornings are the hardest time for swim and she cant seem to function at all until she gets her first dose and the earlier she takes it the harder it is then to reduce the amount of doses throughout the day.....if swims 3 year old daughter would sleep in late in the mornings a little it would help instead of 6am starts!! lol..

Re: Some advice please on codeine quitting

Betsym it sounds like swiy is having to deal with an awful lot of pain which must make this process so much harder!! Swim also has pain to deal with but not as severe as swiys.....

Swim has taken one dose so far today and is hoping to remain on 3 doses a day for a week before reducing it further...but Swim isnt very confident that this method will work and is seriously considering cold turkey.....swim is working out how far she can get with the tablets she has left and can then work out a start date....swim just hoped that if swims body was used to 120mg less a day of codeine per day, that the withdrawal might be less severe....

Swim will take some kratom soon to try and stretch the time before 2nd dose......

Swim bought a bottle of Robitusin yesterday but hasnt tried it yet.....swim cant find anything on the ingredients that would pertain to DXM though....
Can someone advise swim of how much of a 100ml bottle swim should take to help stave off withdrawal??

Swim hopes her friends Avid and Roc are doing well today!!

Re: Some advice please on codeine quitting

Thanks for that Betsym! Swim must have bought the wrong medicine!! So glad swim didnt chug any!! Swim didnt see any med called Robitussin Dm but will look again.....things have different brand names here in the UK so makes it tricky...

Hope swiy at last gets some sleep!!

Re: Some advice please on codeine quitting

I deeply appreciate everyones input with their thoughts and ideas and was willin to give anything a go....it just so happened luckily, that kratom was the first thing i tried and it was easy to get.....saying all that......
I have found DICKS post extremely beneficial to me in lots of different aspects and he has helped me a great deal and I respect everyones opinions on this, DICK has also taken a great interest in the medical condition of swims daughter and has been very touched by this........just dont think anyone(whoever that may have been) should give out neg rep on something just because it wouldnt have been their particular advice....

Swims intentions at the moment is once she quits her tabs altogether is....if she is going through a particular hard time....to try a few capsules of kratom to keep the cravings at bay.....if it ends up that swim needs to up the dose of kratom she will stop using it altogether........since swim isnt using this for any recreational reason and has never got a buzz from it I dont think this will be very difficult...
Saying that...swim is considering using valium for the first week of cold turkey as they definately help! Just received batch today and took one 10mg and didnt even think of taking tabs all day but just took them anyway (just the 2 doses) to keep the w/ds at bay.....
Betsym thanks for your PM and swim really hopes you get some sleep with those sore wrists!!!
